About the role
We're hiring a Senior Solution Architect to help design and build a high-throughput, regulated payments platform supporting fiat and crypto flows. This is a hands-on technical role working closely with engineering, product, compliance, and operations to deliver reliable, scalable systems in a complex multi-service environment. You'll contribute to architecture decisions and also be able to dive into code, infrastructure, and operational debugging when needed.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve a distributed payments architecture supporting: pay-in / pay-out flows, conversions, settlement, reconciliation crypto wallet / blockchain-related components and workflows integrations with external payment partners and banking rails.
- Define and maintain system architecture across multiple components: backend services, APIs, internal event flows, and data models fault-tolerance, idempotency, retry strategies, auditability, observability.
- Drive resilient execution patterns using workflow orchestration (e.g., Temporal)
- Build and optimize distributed persistence layers (e.g., CockroachDB) with strong consistency requirements
- Operate within a Kubernetes-based platform (e.g., AWS K8s / EKS) including deployment, scaling, and runtime debugging
- Work across a polyglot backend stack, including: Node.js / JavaScript / TypeScript backend services.
- Contribute to engineering practices: architecture reviews, RFCs, technical standards, mentoring improving reliability, security, and developer velocity.
Qualifications
- 6-10+ years experience in backend architecture / solution architecture / staff engineering roles.
- Strong experience in payments (PSP, acquiring, remittance, settlement, reconciliation, ledgering).
- Solid exposure to crypto / digital assets (wallets, blockchain interactions, custody/security concepts).
- Proven ability to design distributed systems with strong reliability requirements.
- Hands-on engineering ability: you can read, review and contribute code effectively.
- Strong experience with: Node.js / TypeScript backend development in production, Kubernetes, CockroachDB or equivalent distributed SQL databases, Temporal or similar workflow engines (Cadence, Step Functions, etc.).
- Comfortable operating in regulated environments: audit trails, secure access, least privilege, incident response readiness.
- Strong communication: able to align stakeholders and drive decisions with clarity.
Nice to Have
- Experience in regulated environments (MAS / EU frameworks, SOC2 / ISO 27001).
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures (NATS/Kafka), service mesh/networking patterns.
- Strong observability practices (structured logs, tracing, metrics).
