Job Description

Who We Are

Open Government Products (OGP) operates like a startup within the government. We are a fast-paced, dynamic team of engineers, designers, and product managers dedicated to building technology for the public good. We identify opportunities to solve real problems, rapidly prototype, and launch impactful products from citizen apps to platforms that power entire government operations. We work in the open, embrace flat hierarchies, and cut through bureaucracy to focus on user-centric innovations that make a difference at scale.

The Team

You will join the Plumber team, where you'll build the platform that empowers public officers across government to automate their workflows without writing code.

Plumber is a no-code workflow automation platform that connects government systems forms, databases, messaging, document management into automated pipelines. Public officers use Plumber to replace manual, repetitive processes: routing form submissions, triggering approvals, syncing data across systems, and running operations at scale. Use cases range from team-level approvals to nationwide operations.

The platform currently serves 14,000+ users across government, running 2.7 million+ automations per quarter and saving thousands of officer-days of manual work. With the majority of workflows starting from FormSG, Plumber sits at a critical intersection of OGP's product ecosystem and is actively expanding its integrations, AI capabilities, and propagation across agencies.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help scale and deepen Plumber's platform capabilities. You'll work across the full stack building new integrations, improving the workflow execution engine, and tackling challenges around reliability, performance, and developer experience for non-technical users.

This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys building platform infrastructure that other people build on top of, cares about making complex systems feel simple, and thrives in a small team with high autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

You will work with a competent cross-functional team to perform the following:

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable production-ready software across the stack from frontend components to backend services and infrastructure
  • Build and maintain workflow execution infrastructure that handles millions of automation runs reliably
  • Design integrations with government systems and third-party services, balancing flexibility with simplicity
  • Write maintainable, readable, and performant code while participating in code reviews to ensure engineering quality
  • Work closely with PMs, designers, and officers on the ground to identify opportunities, scope features, test hypotheses, and ship solutions that solve real pain points
  • Write and review engineering documentation such as RFCs and technical specifications to improve knowledge sharing
  • Set up robust monitoring, alerting, and testing practices to ensure our systems are production-ready and reliable
  • Own projects end-to-end, from discovery and prototyping to deployment and iteration.
  • Contribute to the broader culture of continuous improvement across OGP

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, React, and backend development (Next.js, Node.js or similar)
  • Experience designing REST APIs and working with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
  • Experience building or maintaining workflow/pipeline systems, job queues, or event-driven architectures is a strong plus
  • Excellent communication skills, especially in understanding and translating problems and requirements into software
  • Strong product thinking and empathy for users especially non-technical ones
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • (Bonus) Experience with AI/LLM integration, observability tooling, or building no-code/low-code platforms
  • (Bonus) Experience in startups or fast-paced environments; proven ability to succeed in dynamic settings and manage shifting priorities with sometimes challenging stakeholders

Overall we look for people who have ability, initiative, good communication, and most importantly, a passionate heart for public good. Don't hesitate to apply, even if you might not possess all the skills and qualifications!

Working at OGP

  • Ownership and Autonomy Beyond technical tasks, this means having autonomy to voice opinions and suggest future directions. Building what you believe in drives the creation of great solutions.
  • Rapid Prototyping We prioritize testing ideas over debating them, allowing us to identify problems quickly and convey possibilities to others. This fail-fast approach accelerates innovation.
  • Flexibility We provide flexible work arrangements based on what works best for our team and its members, fostering a productive and supportive environment.
  • Continuous Learning Drive professional growth by exploring new architectures, frameworks, and technologies. With dedicated yearly learning months and hackathons, continuous learning is essential as we tackle innovative ideas and challenges.
  • Mission-Driven Our work is dedicated to the public good, aiming to improve the lives of Singapore citizens. We focus on creating impactful solutions that enhance the community and the place we call home.

Features include multi-respondent workflows, AI-assisted form creation, and payment processing.
  • ActiveSG ActiveSG's goal is to make sports accessible, convenient, and engaging for all Singaporeans. The digital platform behind Singapore's national sports initiative serves 478,000+ users who log over 4.2 million hours of exercise per quarter across Singapore's sports facilities. ActiveSG manages facility bookings, programme registrations, gym and pool access, balloting, and payments.
  • Plumber A no-code workflow automation platform that lets public officers connect government systems and automate repetitive processes. With 14,000+ users running 2.7 million+ automations per quarter, Plumber saves thousands of officer-days of manual work each quarter.
