The Role
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services and distributed systems for a global e-commerce platform.
- Build reliable and high-performing services across domains including retail transactions, order management, fulfilment, product management, search, recommendations, pricing, and promotions.
- Develop cloud-native applications and services on AWS with a strong focus on scalability, resilience, performance, security, and cost efficiency.
- Work with modern distributed technologies including MongoDB, Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch / OpenSearch, CloudWatch, and OpenTelemetry.
- Build and maintain APIs, event-driven services, microservices, and backend workflows supporting business-critical platform operations.
- Improve system performance, reliability, availability, observability, and operational excellence across production services.
- Implement monitoring, logging, tracing, diagnostics, and alerting practices to support highly reliable production systems.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineering leaders, architects, DevOps, QA, and other software engineers to deliver high-impact technical solutions.
- Participate in system design discussions, technical design reviews, architecture decisions, and code reviews.
- Write clean, maintainable, scalable, secure, and well-tested code aligned with modern software engineering standards.
- Use modern AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools to improve productivity, development speed, code quality, and documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across distributed systems, production environments, integrations, and cloud services.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across CI/CD, automation, testing, observability, documentation, and engineering best practices.
Your Profile:
- 6-10 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in backend engineering, platform engineering, distributed systems, or large-scale digital platforms.
- Strong experience building scalable backend services, APIs, microservices, or event-driven systems in production environments.
- Strong backend development skills in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Node.js, Python, TypeScript, or similar.
- Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-native application development.
- Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
- Experience with Kafka or other messaging / event-streaming platforms.
- Experience with Redis or similar caching technologies.
- Experience with Elasticsearch / OpenSearch for search, indexing, or data retrieval use cases.
- Strong understanding of system design, scalability, latency, reliability, fault tolerance, and performance optimisation.
- Experience with observability, monitoring, logging, and tracing tools such as AWS CloudWatch and OpenTelemetry.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, version control, secure coding, and agile delivery practices.
- Ability to work independently in a remote / WFH environment while collaborating effectively with distributed engineering teams.
- Strong problem-solving ability, ownership mindset, attention to detail, and commitment to engineering quality.
- Comfortable using modern AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools in a professional engineering workflow.
