Acheron is a market maker holding a CASP license issued by the AFM in the Netherlands under MiCAr and with passporting in all EU countries.
Acheron provides liquidity services to digital asset issuers from their most embryonic stages and throughout their adoption cycle. It is our belief that market inefficiency is one of the factors preventing digital assets from achieving mass adoption.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead our core Applications vertical, deputize for Infrastructure, and front engineering risk governance under our regulatory frameworks (MAS TRM / MiCA).
In this role, you will serve as the technical anchor and execution shield bridging executive business vision with engineering delivery. You will manage a lean team of software developers, establish foundational engineering hygiene (UAT staging, mandatory peer code reviews, CI/CD gates), and steer our 6–12 month core platform migrations while ensuring daily operational resilience across all applications and cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
1. Applications Domain Leadership (Primary Scope)
- Client & Commercial Touchpoints: Direct the architecture and delivery of institutional client dashboards, merchant portals, balance-tracking interfaces, and external customer API gateways.
- Internal Operations & Back-Office Tooling: Oversee the development of internal admin portals, automated trade reconciliation workflows, settlement tracking interfaces, and application-level incident triage tools.
- Financial Engine & Ledger Systems: Own the application logic for multi-asset ledgers, parallel accounting books (finance vs. regulatory compliance), and automated fiat/stablecoin payment and payout pipelines.
- Identity & Access Governance: Enforce application security standards across all client and internal interfaces, including API key management, OAuth/JWT token rotation, MFA, and programmatic 4-eye approval controls for sensitive operations.
2. Infrastructure Deputization & Engineering Hygiene (Secondary Scope)
- Deputy for Infrastructure: Partner closely with the Senior Infrastructure Engineer to co-own platform architecture, system observability, cloud environments, and automated fallback/disaster recovery protocols.
- Environment Provisioning: Direct the implementation of isolated, firewalled UAT/Staging environments, test data seeding, and mock API integrations to ensure zero unverified code touches production.
- Release Pipeline Enforcement: Establish automated CI/CD gating and static analysis rules, instituting formal release discipline and production access controls across the department.
3. Regulatory Fronting & MAS TRM Compliance
- Regulatory Technical Lead: Act as the engineering domain authority for regulatory audits, board-approved technical policies, and security assessments (MAS TRM / European MiCA).
- Segregation of Duties & 4-Eyes: Enforce programmatic governance tools ensuring strict peer code reviews, privileged access management (PAM), and clear operational segregation between development, review, and deployment.
- System Security & Vetting: Establish rigid vetting workflows for external third-party integrations, API dependencies, token security, and credential tracking to eliminate security and liquidity risks.
Candidate Requirements:
1.Experience & Leadership
- 6+ years in software engineering with 2+ years in a Engineering Leadership role.
- Proven track record of guiding software engineering teams in high-velocity startup or scaling environments without needing to be an individual coding contributor.
- Demonstrated experience establishing engineering processes from scratch (UAT environments, mandatory PR reviews, release governance).
2.Technical & Domain Architecture
- Core Language Stack: Deep architectural familiarity and hands-on exposure to Go (Golang), Python, and Rust across microservices, payment/payout pipelines, data processing, and performance-critical backend architectures.
- Distributed Systems: Deep architectural knowledge of modern distributed microservices, data layers (PostgreSQL, Redis), API design (REST, WebSockets, gRPC), and cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
Good to Have:
- Regulated Domain Expertise: Direct experience working in a regulated fintech, payments, digital asset, or trading platform environment.
- Regulatory Frameworks: Direct familiarity with MAS Technology Risk Management (TRM) guidelines, ISO 27001, or equivalent financial security/governance standards.
