Senior Software Engineer - AI & Automation

About the role

Vertical Institute is looking for a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to help build and improve the technology systems that power our learning platform and internal operations.

You will work closely with teams across admissions, sales, operations, finance, and learning to design and build tools that improve how courses are delivered, how students are supported, and how teams operate efficiently at scale.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving real business problems through technology - building internal systems, automations, integrations, and AI-powered workflows that create measurable impact.

What You'll Do

• Develop and improve systems that support our learning platform and internal operations

• Build internal tools that improve workflows across sales, admissions, finance, and student services

• Design and implement system integrations between LMS, CRM, payment platforms, and third-party tools

• Identify opportunities to automate manual processes across the organisation

• Implement AI-powered solutions and agents to improve productivity and learning experiences

• Work closely with non-technical teams to translate operational needs into practical technical solutions

• Maintain system reliability, performance, and scalability as usage grows

• Contribute to improving development practices and documentation

What we're looking for

• Strong experience in web application development (full stack or backend focused)

• Comfortable building production systems and integrations independently

• Experience working with APIs, databases, and modern web frameworks

• Interest or experience in automation, AI tools, or applied AI implementations

• Ability to understand business problems and propose practical technical solutions

• Strong problem-solving skills and clear communication

Nice to have

• Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or education platforms

• Experience integrating SaaS tools such as CRM, payment systems, analytics platforms, or automation tools

• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails

• Experience building AI workflows using modern AI APIs or automation frameworks
