This role focuses on leading interdisciplinary research at the intersection of biotechnology, materials science, and sustainable engineering to develop innovative, bio-based and advanced material solutions. The candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting hands-on experimental work, from laboratory research to pilot-scale development, including material synthesis, testing, and performance evaluation. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the role also supports the integration, scale-up, and real-world application of developed materials. Additionally, the position contributes to intellectual property development and technical documentation to support ongoing innovation efforts.
- Lead interdisciplinary research at the intersection of biotechnology, materials science, and sustainable engineering.
- Develop next-generation bio-derived materials, cementitious systems, and advanced composites.
- Design, develop, and optimize bio-based and hybrid material systems, including bio-energy systems.
- Conduct hands-on experimental work across both laboratory and pilot scales.
- Work with cementitious materials, including formulation, mixing, casting, curing, and testing.
- Develop and fabricate advanced composites, including carbon-based materials.
- Apply biological and microbial processes for material synthesis and transformation.
- Integrate biological systems with material engineering workflows.
- Perform material characterization and evaluate performance across mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties.
- Design and execute experimental protocols and validation studies.
- Document, analyze, and interpret experimental data to support research outcomes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across materials science, biotechnology, and engineering.
- Support the scale-up and real-world implementation of developed materials.
- Contribute to patents and prepare technical reports.
Requirements:
- Hold a PhD in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or Civil Engineering with a materials focus.
- Possess a strong foundation in materials science and/or biological systems.
- Demonstrate proven hands-on laboratory and experimental experience.
- Have experience in material synthesis, processing, and testing.
- Be able to work effectively across the interfaces of biology, materials science, and engineering.
- Demonstrate strong experimental design and problem-solving abilities.
- Possess hands-on experience in prototyping and materials development.
- Exhibit strong analytical thinking and data interpretation skills.
- Work effectively in cross-disciplinary teams.
- Communicate technical information clearly and effectively.

- Have experience in bio-based or sustainable materials.
