Job Description

This role focuses on leading interdisciplinary research at the intersection of biotechnology, materials science, and sustainable engineering to develop innovative, bio-based and advanced material solutions. The candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting hands-on experimental work, from laboratory research to pilot-scale development, including material synthesis, testing, and performance evaluation. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the role also supports the integration, scale-up, and real-world application of developed materials. Additionally, the position contributes to intellectual property development and technical documentation to support ongoing innovation efforts.

  • Lead interdisciplinary research at the intersection of biotechnology, materials science, and sustainable engineering.
  • Develop next-generation bio-derived materials, cementitious systems, and advanced composites.
  • Design, develop, and optimize bio-based and hybrid material systems, including bio-energy systems.
  • Conduct hands-on experimental work across both laboratory and pilot scales.
  • Work with cementitious materials, including formulation, mixing, casting, curing, and testing.
  • Develop and fabricate advanced composites, including carbon-based materials.
  • Apply biological and microbial processes for material synthesis and transformation.
  • Integrate biological systems with material engineering workflows.
  • Perform material characterization and evaluate performance across mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties.
  • Design and execute experimental protocols and validation studies.
  • Document, analyze, and interpret experimental data to support research outcomes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across materials science, biotechnology, and engineering.
  • Support the scale-up and real-world implementation of developed materials.
  • Contribute to patents and prepare technical reports.

Requirements:

  • Hold a PhD in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or Civil Engineering with a materials focus.
  • Possess a strong foundation in materials science and/or biological systems.
  • Demonstrate proven hands-on laboratory and experimental experience.
  • Have experience in material synthesis, processing, and testing.
  • Be able to work effectively across the interfaces of biology, materials science, and engineering.
  • Demonstrate strong experimental design and problem-solving abilities.
  • Possess hands-on experience in prototyping and materials development.
  • Exhibit strong analytical thinking and data interpretation skills.
  • Work effectively in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Communicate technical information clearly and effectively.

Good-to-Have:

  • Have experience in bio-based or sustainable materials.
  • Have experience in the development of alternative binders for concrete systems.
  • Have experience working with composite materials, such as carbon fiber.
  • Have experience in microbial or biochemical processes.
