This is a pivotal leadership role that demands not only strategic foresight but also the ability to dive into the details, build processes from the ground up, and adapt swiftly to evolving market conditions and regulatory landscapes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Credit Risk Management:
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive credit risk management framework, policies, and procedures aligned with the company's strategic objectives and risk appetite.
- Lead the assessment of creditworthiness for new and existing clients/portfolios, leveraging advanced analytics, scoring models, and qualitative judgment.
- Oversee the ongoing monitoring and management of the credit portfolio, identifying emerging risks, concentrations, and trends.
- Provide expert oversight and decision-making on significant credit proposals, ensuring adherence to risk appetite and robust underwriting standards.
- Partner closely with collections and recovery teams to optimize strategies for delinquent accounts and minimize losses.
- Take a hands-on approach to validating and refining credit models, ensuring their accuracy, predictive power, and regulatory compliance.
2. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM):
- Define and articulate the company's overall risk appetite, ensuring it is clearly communicated and embedded across all business units.
- Lead the proactive identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of all material risks (operational, market, liquidity, compliance, fraud, etc.) across the enterprise.
- Develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies, controls, and contingency plans.
- Champion a strong, proactive risk-aware culture throughout the organization, providing training and guidance to foster responsible risk-taking.
3. Governance, Reporting & Compliance:
- Act as the primary point of contact for relevant regulatory bodies, managing examinations, inquiries, and ensuring continuous compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Prepare and present comprehensive risk reports to the CEO, Board of Directors, and relevant committees, offering clear insights, recommendations, and strategic guidance.
- Lead the development, review, and enforcement of all risk-related policies, standards, and procedures.
- Oversee the design and effectiveness of internal controls related to risk management.
4. Leadership & Adaptability:
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing risk management team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate effectively with all business units (Sales, Product, Operations, Finance, Tech) to integrate risk considerations into business decisions and product development.
- Demonstrate exceptional adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced, evolving environment, pivoting strategies and processes as market conditions or business needs dictate.
- Be prepared to roll up sleeves, analyze data, review files, and directly contribute to problem-solving and process enhancement, rather than solely delegating.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. Master's degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CFA) highly preferred.
- Deep expertise in credit underwriting, portfolio management, credit scoring/modeling, collections strategies, and regulatory requirements related to lending.
- Strong understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks (operational, market, liquidity, compliance, fraud, reputational risk).
- Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make sound decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to be hands-on, comfortable working with data, reviewing detailed analyses, and contributing directly to process and policy development.
- Highly adaptable, resilient, and comfortable operating in a dynamic, high-growth environment with evolving priorities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, including the Board.
