About the Role
You will function as a key member of the medical team, providing leadership in patient care and supporting the smooth day-to-day operations of the wards. This role carries significant clinical, supervisory, and teaching responsibilities, contributing to patient safety, service continuity, and the professional development of junior medical staff. You will be expected to demonstrate sound clinical judgment, strong diagnostic capability, and the ability to manage complex cases independently while working closely with senior clinicians.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily clinical management and supervision of assigned wards, ensuring high standards of patient care and continuity of services.
- Provide comprehensive clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients, including the review of routine and urgent referrals.
- Supervise, teach, and mentor House Officers, Medical Officers, and trainees, supporting their clinical development and competency.
- Attend to urgent and emergency referrals during on-call and night duties, including conducting ward rounds outside regular office hours when required.
- Escalate complex or challenging cases to the Consultant on call and provide timely updates on patient conditions and care plans.
- Support the preparation, review, and endorsement of consultation and referral documentation, particularly during after-hours coverage.
- Compile and submit clinical and mortality-related reports in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Represent the ward or institution in medico-legal proceedings or formal inquiries related to patient care, when required.
- Participate actively in departmental ward rounds, teaching sessions, clinical conferences, and continuing medical education activities.
- For procedural or surgical disciplines, perform elective and emergency procedures within approved competency levels, and guide junior doctors in basic operative skills.
- Demonstrate ongoing commitment to specialty development, clinical excellence, and continuous professional learning.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by departmental leadership, and perform responsibilities of junior grades when operationally necessary.
Requirements
- Recognised postgraduate medical qualification with completion of basic specialist training.
- Several years of clinical experience following housemanship and medical officer training within an acute healthcare setting.
- Must be registered with the Singapore Medical Council, and completed 1 year of housemanship and 3 years medical officer posting
