Job Description

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The school, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes was established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The school's primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching.

Professor Lim Kah Leong is a renowned scientist in the areas of neuroscience and mental health, particularly in the field of Parkinson's disease (PD). With a long-term goal to elucidate the molecular events underlying PD and to effectively treat the disease, his research centres on mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration, which will reveal targets for neuroprotection. He is also developing new research technologies in the area of stem cells and neuro-restoration as well as in diagnostics and neurotechnology, where he collaborates extensively with chemists, materials scientists and engineers. His laboratory uses a broad range of disease models including Drosophila, rodents, human neurons and brain organoids generated from patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells and non-human primates (marmosets). We are looking for a well-trained Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow to lead and run a new project funded by NMRC entitled, . (Reference:). The candidate should have experience working on iPSC-derived stem cells and is conversant with molecular and cellular biological techniques including CRISPR/Cas9 editing. He/she should help oversee the training of research assistants/associates and graduate students linked to this project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To examine the state of mitochondrial metabolism and lipid dynamics in PD-related human dopaminergic neurons in 3D ventral midbrain organoid model

  • To elucidate the mechanism underlying α-syn-mediated disruptions in mitochondrial/lipid homeostasis.

  • To investigate whether modulation of key mitochondrial/lipid targets ameliorates α-syn-associated PD phenotypes in α-syn PFF mouse model.

Job Requirements:

. PhD in Biological Sciences or equivalent.

. At least 5 years of experience as research fellow in the field of neuroscience/ neurobiology

. Deep knowledge and interest in neuroscience.

. Strong research experience and relevant skillsets in biomedical sciences (genomics, cell biology, molecular biology, animal handling, etc.).
