Job Description

Overview.

Reporting to the Chief Radiation Physicist, you will provide scientific, educational, research, safety and technical support as well as mentorship in a radiation therapy department.

Job Responsibilities.

You will be primarily responsible (80%) for the following:

. Radiation dosimetry, calibration and in-vivo measurements.

. Quality assurance of treatment machines, treatment planning systems and dosimetry equipment.

. Radiation safety measurements and administration.

. Radiation treatment plan quality assurance.

. Equipment commissioning and acceptance.

. Professional development, training and orientation in all areas of radiation therapy physics.

You will be secondarily responsible (20%) for the following: . Research and development.

. Mentorship for Radiation Physicists

Requirements.

A postgraduate degree in Medical Physics is preferred. A postgraduate degree in Physics or Engineering is also acceptable.

5 to 10 years of clinical experience preferred

Skills Required

. Publications in recognized journals.

. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

. In-depth knowledge and understanding of current radiation therapy principles, methods, procedures, and techniques.

. Knowledge and understanding of the operational characteristics, usage, and safety parameters of a comprehensive range of radiation therapy equipment and facilities.

. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

. Computer hardware and software knowledge and skills.

. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment.

. Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.

. Ability to design, develop and modify radiation therapy devices and modalities.

. Knowledge of radiation safety principles, methods, and procedures

. Knowledge of regulations, guidelines, and standards for the provision of medical physics/radiation therapy to patients.

. Advises and consults with medical providers and specialists.

. Researches and develops new devices and modalities for improved therapeutic use of radiation.

Working Conditions

. Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment.

. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 20 kilograms.

. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

. Occasionally work may need to be completed outside normal working hours including weekends.
