Job Description

A Senior Private Security Officer (SSO) is a security professional who has more experience and training than a basic Security Officer. Their duties include monitoring security systems, managing key press, overseeing traffic, and responding to incidents, often with supervisory or managerial responsibilities depending on the site. In Singapore, a key requirement to become an SSO is completing specific training modules and having a minimum of six months experience as a Security Officer.

Key responsibilities

  • Surveillance and monitoring: Operate command centers, monitor CCTV, and manage alarms and fire systems.
  • Incident response: Maintain a visible presence to deter crime, respond to emergencies, and report suspicious activities.
  • Security management: Perform key press management and ensure all security equipment is in good working order.
  • Traffic control: Regulate traffic and ensure smooth vehicle movement on the premises.
  • Assisting law enforcement: Assist public officers and employees of statutory boards when needed.
  • Team leadership: May involve leading teams or taking on more complex duties as directed by a shift leader or operations manager.

Qualification requirements (in Singapore)

  • Experience: At least six months of experience as a Security Officer.
  • Training: Must complete specific training courses designed for Senior Security Officers.
  • Licensing: Requires a valid Security Officer licence.
