We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading organisation in the marine and offshore engineering industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the design, engineering, and installation of mechanical systems for new build and conversion projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Review mechanical equipment specifications to ensure compliance with project and technical requirements.
- Interpret relevant classification society rules and engineering standards to address technical comments and support design approvals.
- Develop and review engineering solutions for the installation of major mechanical equipment, including propulsion systems, diesel engines, generators, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, HVAC, refrigeration, and auxiliary machinery.
- Design and review marine piping systems, including ballast, bilge, cooling water, fuel oil, fire protection, compressed air, sanitary, and other shipboard systems.
- Select suitable pumps, compressors, valves, piping materials, fittings, and associated components based on operational and pressure requirements.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, designers, and equipment suppliers to develop piping schematics, equipment layouts, and installation drawings.
- Review mechanical interfaces between major equipment and associated systems to ensure proper integration.
- Support the development and coordination of detailed 3D engineering models, including clash detection and routing of piping, HVAC, electrical, and structural systems.
- Prepare material take-offs (MTOs), piping spools, and fabrication documentation to support production activities.
- Provide engineering support throughout project execution and resolve technical issues during design and construction phases.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in shipbuilding, marine engineering, offshore, or heavy industrial engineering projects.
- Good understanding of shipbuilding processes, engineering design, and project execution.
- Experience with AutoCAD familiarity with 3D ship design software will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of marine mechanical equipment and shipboard piping systems.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings, and classification society requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to travel domestically or internationally for project meetings when required.
