Responsibilities
- Develop modular approach to hardware design and architecture
- Generate concepts and develop detailed designs for the mechanical systems
- Conduct detailed engineering analyses on components and sub-assemblies
- Proactively assess the technical risks and resolve the design issues by providing reliable solutions
- Ensure quality is built into designs and driven through product development
- Develop a mechanical timeline for their own developments and is accountable for it.
- Support project planning and execute design implementation.
- Deliver module designs based on planned cost, schedule and quality
- Develop test methodology, experimentation, prototype to verify design.
- Work in close support of the marketing department in the analysis of customer need (VOC) and in the development of product specifications.
- Translate product requirements into a functional system
- Work with manufacturing team to support injection molding, gear design, machining, sheet metal and assembly
- Participate in other aspects of the product development such as: solving manufacturing issues, product performance, repair issues, product improvements, and value engineering
- Work cross-functionally with internal team and other core disciplines (EE, Firmware, Software, Marketing)
- Ability to apply advanced mechanical engineering principles and theories to complex issues.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers on project basis
Requirements
- A Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical design.
- Candidate must have full experience in product development from conceptualization to mass production.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles and practice
- Experience designing complex mechanisms, such as clutches, gear trains, cams, and linkages
- Knowledge of electro-mechanical components such as motors, power transmission and sensors
- Expertise in the design of plastic, sheet metal, gear design, die-cast parts, rubber, electro-mechanical & mechanism parts/assemblies
- Fluent in SolidWorks CAD software or/and FEA
- Sound knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
- Knowledge of Design of Experiments and Six Sigma is preferred
- Competence with analytical techniques such as Design for Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacturing, and Pugh Matrix is preferred
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with stakeholders
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Good team player among internal and cross functional team
