Role Title: Senior Manager, Singapore Compliance

Role location: Singapore Based

How will I help

The Senior Manager, SG Compliance supports the Head of Compliance, Singapore, to execute the Compliance Program and discharge the responsibility of compliance risk oversight for Westpac Singapore Branch (WBC SG). This means that the Senior Manager is responsible for providing quality compliance advisory and regulatory oversight on the Branch's activities, which focuses on wholesale banking.

The Westpac Institutional Banking business is run as a global business within Westpac Banking Corporation, with Singapore branch (the Branch) overseeing the franchise from a Singapore and Asia perspective. The primary lines of businesses of WBC SG are Corporate and Institutional Banking, Global Transaction Services, Financial Markets and Treasury.

The Senior Manager, SG Compliance will work collaboratively across the branch and Westpac network to ensure all banking activities of the branch comply with applicable regulatory requirements and internal policies. The key responsibilities are to:

  • Help develop, implement and monitor compliance programs, conduct risk assessments (where appropriate) and provide overall guidance to the all branch business units and functions on regulatory matters
  • Ensure regulatory changes within the Branch are implemented within the timelines prescribed and escalate ahead of any possible slippages of implementation
  • Support the Business compliance risk management, including regulatory interpretation of relevant regulations, provide advice on key business activities, products and regulatory obligations, and facilitate sensible and appropriate solutions (where possible)
  • Proactively challenge the Business in their risk management processes and proposals and escalate where appropriate
  • Provide Compliance policy guidance and training to the Branch
  • Foster genuine partnership and good teamwork ethos within the Compliance function (both country and Group) and with all functions of the Branch and Group and be able to demonstrate contribution to the achievement of WIB strategic priorities
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies
  • Investigate and report breaches of compliance and take appropriate actions as required
  • Maintain and update the local and Group compliance policies and procedures, ensuring they remain current and effective
  • Act as one of the contact points for regulatory communication, on-site inspections and co-ordinate responses to regulatory bodies where appropriate
  • Lead by example and encourage others to behave in ways which support the development of a successful and desired business culture
  • Support the Head of Compliance, Singapore and Chief Compliance Officer, Westpac Institutional Bank and Treasury (WIB and Treasury) in the management and oversight of compliance risks across the Branch as well as the WIB and Treasury divisions.

What do I need

  • Degree qualified. Minimum of a bachelor's degree in law, finance or relevant discipline is preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience in similar compliance or legal / regulatory roles
  • Experience in dealing with regulatory bodies and handling of audit and inspections would be highly regarded
  • Highest level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to ethical standards.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills, with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and to work collaboratively across departments
  • Strong understanding of both internal business drivers and industry dynamics
  • Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory environments and experience in managing implications of regulatory changes and issues.
