Responsibilities
- This position is for Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (IIE).
- Craft and execute media and communications strategies that strengthen IIE's visibility and impact.
- Identify and amplify compelling stories from IIE initiatives, including student and founder journeys, innovation milestones, and programme achievements, translating them into narratives for media, stakeholders, and the public.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure cohesive messaging and alignment with organizational and SMU-wide priorities.
- Corporate Communications & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Support the development and execution of integrated communications strategies, including crisis plans.
- Oversee creation of high-quality communication materials aligned with IIE's brand and tone.
- Serve as a liaison for internal divisions, programme teams, and external partners, including government agencies.
- Collaborate with OCCM on PR and branding initiatives to strengthen IIE and SMU's visibility.
- Contribute to corporate reporting and ensure timely updates on key milestones and programmes.
- Media Engagement & Storytelling:
- Identify and amplify newsworthy stories from students, founders, and ecosystem initiatives.
- Develop press releases, media kits, and other materials to secure coverage in relevant media.
- Manage media enquiries, coordinate interviews, and maintain a media database.
- Cultivate relationships with journalists to enhance media presence and thought leadership.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage.
- Support foreign media engagement to boost international visibility.
- Marketing & Programme Coordination:
- Align communications and marketing initiatives with organisational priorities.
- Collaborate with programme leads to amplify stories, milestones, and outcomes.
- Track initiatives to ensure timely execution and measurable impact.
- Strategic Planning & Resource Management:
- Support leadership in developing and executing strategic communications and marketing plans.
- Recommend media channels and platforms to maximise reach and engagement.
- Plan and manage timelines and initiatives within budget and resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- University degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related fields with 5 to 8 years of experience in media relations, brand management and strategic communications planning with hands-on experience running campaigns.
- Ability to translate innovation milestones, founder and student journeys, and programme outcomes into compelling narratives.
- Excellent communication skills and experience engaging senior decision-makers across public and private sectors.
- Proficiency with digital communications tools, social media, and media monitoring.
- Excellent project, stakeholder, and time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Creative problem-solving, analytical thinking, and a proactive, outcome-driven mindset.
- Strong ownership and accountability, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- A humble, positive, can-do attitude, thriving in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Knowledge of budget management, financial principles, or grant administration is a plus.
- Familiarity with PR agencies, startups, or innovation ecosystems is desirable.

Candidates who do not possess the stipulated qualifications but have relevant work experience may still apply. Remuneration and appointment terms shall commensurate with qualifications and experience. SMU reserves the right to modify the appointment terms where necessary.
