Our client is a global shipping MNC (based in town). The co allows for a WFH arrangement of 2 times a week (after the candidate passes the probation period). This is a perm role at the group level (based in Singapore). The role reports directly to the Group General Counsel.
Summary: To provide all legal support to the Company covering mainly corporate, compliance, contracts and insurance functions.

Role and Responsibilities:
LEGAL MATTERS
- Prepare agency agreement for all the Group's shipping agents.
- Draft commercial agreements, including but not limited to Connecting Carrier Agreements (CCAs), Slot Exchange Agreements, Joint Service Agreements, Joint Venture Agreements, Slot Charter Agreements and other agreements and contracts.
- Vet and recommend changes to draft agreements and contracts received from other parties within the Group.
- Reviewing terminal agreements.
- Provide legal advice and recommend solutions to disputes that may arise regarding business agreements and contracts.
- Liaise with external lawyers on all legal matters.
- Review and negotiate MOA on sale and purchase of ships and assist closing.
CHARTER PARTY MATTERS
- Negotiate charter party clauses and finalize the charter with owners.
- Handles charter party disputes by liaising with P&I club.
- Draft internal charterparties and negotiate with external charterparties for owned ships.
INSURANCE MATTERS
- Assist fleet department and business hubs on all queries (coverage, claims and certificates, etc) on insurance by liaising with brokers.
- Liaise closely with insurance brokers on development in P&I and changes in the marine insurance industry.
HANDLING CLAIMS
- Handle all cargo/container claims and monitor progress Liaise with P&I clubs claim handler on claims progress.
- Liaise with Line Managers / Operations on appointment of surveyor to determine the cause of the incident and the extent of the damage/loss.
- Take steps on recovery against responsible party liable for damage / loss arising from claim incident.
- Consider loss prevention measures with Operations and implementation.
- Liaise with Fleet Management on claims arising from internal vessels.
- Provide assistance / advice to claims arising in other hubs.
- Defend claims and deny liability against claimants.
OTHERS
- Contract management, operational advisory and compliance matters.
Requirements:
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Law (LLB/LLM) from a recognized university.
- Experience: Requires 5 to 10 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in maritime law, gained either at a shipping firm or in-house at a shipping company. Shipping litigation experience with experience dealing with ship owners is a must.
- Hard Skills: Deep understanding of admiralty law, and international maritime conventions.
- Certification: Qualification to practice as a solicitor or barrister in a common law jurisdiction (e.g., UK or Singapore) is preferred.
