The APAC Safety Senior Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs across our data center and logistics operations. This role will have a dual focus: 50% on hands-on management of safety protocols in Singapore and Malaysia, and 50% on a strategic, regional level for the wider APAC region. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience in both data center environments and logistics, with a strong emphasis on white glove services, cargo transit safety, and vehicle/fleet safety.
Data Center White Glove Safety (Regional Focus)
- Develop and enforce strict safety protocols for white glove activities, including the installation, de-installation, and movement of high-value, sensitive IT equipment (e.g., servers, racks, networking gear).
- Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures for all on-site data center activities, including working in confined spaces, at heights, and with electrical equipment.
- Ensure all staff and contractors are trained on and adhere to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, safe lifting techniques, and clean-room protocols.
- Manage the safe handling of specialist tools and equipment, and ensure all procedures are aligned with the highest standards of precision and security.
- Liaise with data center facility managers and client teams to coordinate and validate all safety procedures before, during, and after a white glove delivery or service.
Truck & Fleet Safety
- Oversee the development and implementation of a robust truck safety program for all vehicles involved in cargo transport.
- Implement technologies and procedures for monitoring driver behavior, including adherence to speed limits, hours of service, and safe driving practices.
- Ensure all vehicles are regularly inspected and maintained to meet or exceed regulatory standards in each country of operation.
- Develop and lead accident investigation and reporting procedures, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Staff Safety During Cargo Transit
- Create and manage safety policies for all personnel involved in cargo transit, including drivers, assistants, and on-site staff.
- Address risks associated with cargo security, lone working, and long-haul travel.
- Ensure staff are equipped with the necessary tools and training to handle unforeseen events, such as mechanical failures, road incidents, or security threats.
- Establish clear communication and emergency response protocols for staff on the road.
Loading & Unloading Safety
- Develop and enforce standardized procedures for safe loading and unloading of cargo at warehouses, data centers, and client sites.
- Ensure all personnel are trained on proper lifting techniques, use of mechanical aids (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks), and securing loads.
- Conduct regular audits of loading docks and staging areas to identify and mitigate hazards such as slips, trips, and falls.
- Ensure all vehicles are properly chocked and secured during the loading/unloading process to prevent unintended movement.
Regional APAC Responsibilities (50% of the Role)
- Act as the primary safety point-of-contact for all APAC operations outside of Singapore and Malaysia.
- Develop and roll out a regional safety strategy that aligns with global company standards while accounting for local regulatory requirements (e.g., Workplace Safety and Health Act in Singapore, Occupational Safety and Health Act in Malaysia, and other relevant standards in the region).
- Conduct regional safety audits and inspections, and provide support and guidance to local teams.
- Lead regional safety training initiatives, promoting a proactive safety culture through training, awareness campaigns, and incentive programs.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics across the APAC region, preparing reports for senior management on trends, incidents, and improvement opportunities.
Warehouse & Logistics Safety
- Develop and implement robust safety programs for all warehouse and storage facilities, including compliance with both local regulations and stringent client-specific standards
- Conduct regular audits of warehouse operations to ensure compliance with SOP and safety protocols.
- Implement best practices for warehouse housekeeping, including managing cleanliness and debris to prevent trip hazards and ensuring clear access to aisles and emergency exits.
- Oversee the safe operation of material handling equipment, including regular inspections, maintenance schedules, and certification programs for operators.
