Job Description

What The Role Is

In this role, you will be part of the team to drive, manage and implement building development and fit-out works, in support of museum vision and goals. You will be working closely with users, stakeholders, consultants and contractors; be facilitating collaborative planning process and manage execution. You will appreciate the envisioned visitor experience and spatial narrative of the facility and its context as a key cultural node within the precinct and work with consultants to transform these requirements to achieve the outcome of providing an accessible, vibrant and well utilized social and cultural space.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Work closely with curators and a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that the building's layout, circulation, and spatial qualities support intuitive wayfinding, engaging storytelling, and inclusive access for all visitors
  • Manage a cross-divisional team on building development planning, design, construction and fit-out works
  • Manage the project progress, including monitoring schedule and budget. Put in place early mitigation measures and controls for identified project risks.
  • Manage the consultants and contractors, including tender procurement, contract administration, and authority submissions
  • Engage and collaborate with internal/external project stakeholders and partners
  • Ensure the project management adheres with institutional framework and regulatory standards (compliance with all relevant building regulations, and precinct-level planning requirements, heritage and conservation guidelines where applicable, and accessibility standards.)
  • Keep abreast of building industry practices and prevailing authority requirements

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking candidates with at least 8 years of project management experience, ideally with exposure to cultural, historic or civic building projects, with an understanding on visitor experience and space planning principles. Application of these in a heritage and cultural context — including considerations such as gallery content sequencing and flow, back-of-house operations, integration within a wider precinct-wide vision and public engagement would be advantageous.

Stakeholders engagement and partnership management skills are essential, as you will be navigating the priorities of curators, funders, government agencies, authorities, precinct stakeholders and community groups alongside the demands of day-to-day project delivery. You should be comfortable holding your own in both technical and creative conversations, be dynamic, efficient and highly motivated, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Given the need to manage construction and fit-out works, relevant working experience in architecture, engineering or project management firm office and familiarity with building codes and regulations on building standards will be advantageous. As a Project Manager in a government agency, you will require good knowledge of contracts administration using PSSCOC and public sector governance. You should possess good organisation, communication and writing skills, be meticulous and attentive to details.
