Our Client
A leading global engineering and technology group is seeking a seasoned R&D and technology leader to drive the identification, assessment, and translation of Advanced Materials and adjacent emerging technologies into business impact. This role sits within the Group Technology function and works closely with senior leadership, business units, and the wider R&D ecosystem.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping long‑term technology strategy, enabling dual‑use applications, and strengthening the organisation's innovation and partnership ecosystem.
Key Job Accountabilities:
- Lead and guide teams in the scanning, evaluation, and assessment of Advanced Materials and adjacent technology domains, including (but not limited to) areas such as Nuclear Fission/Fusion, Synthetic Biology, and other emerging deep‑tech fields.
- Assess, develop, and recommend technologies with potential dual‑use applications, ensuring alignment with business and strategic priorities.
- Build and sustain a strong R&D and innovation ecosystem, partnering with local and global start‑ups, technology vendors, Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), Research Institutes (RIs), and relevant government agencies to co‑develop and demonstrate innovative solutions.
- Drive strategic R&D planning to deliver measurable business impact, working closely with business units to integrate technologies and use cases into business strategies and product roadmaps.
- Influence and oversee the development and delivery of solutions, actively managing and coordinating projects across multiple business units to achieve strategic objectives.
- Collaborate closely with internal Technology Offices and the broader R&D community, including advising on and recommending capital investments that support long‑term business and technology goals.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior executive leadership, communicating on materials and technology trends, roadmaps, and relevance to business strategy, as well as other matters of strategic importance as part of the Group Technology function.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Degree or advanced degree (Master's or PhD preferred) in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with strong depth in material applications.
- Proven experience in advanced technology research, technology transfer, strategy development, and technology road‑mapping.
- Strong analytical capabilities, with excellent project management, prioritisation, and organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and executional levels, managing complexity across stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to influence senior leadership and external partners.
