Job Description

Summary

The Senior Machinist is responsible for advanced setup, programming, and operation of CNC and conventional machine tools to manufacture high-precision components according to engineering specifications. This role requires a high level of technical expertise in machining processes, including2-axis turning and 5-axis milling, as well as the ability to troubleshoot machining issues and optimize production efficiency.

The Senior Machinist plays a key role in ensuring product quality, mentoring junior machinists, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The role involves interpreting complex technical drawings, refining machining processes, and maintaining high standards of accuracy, productivity, and safety on the production floor.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced CNC Machine Setup and Operation

. Set up, operate, and optimize CNC machines for complex machining operations such as milling, turning, grinding, and drilling.
. Perform advanced 2-axis turning and 5-axis milling operations with minimal supervision.
. Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and machining strategies for high-precision components.
. Ensure proper machine setup to achieve tight tolerances and high-quality finishes.

Technical Interpretation and Process Planning

. Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM files.
. Determine machining methods, process flow, and sequence of operations.
. Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to meet stringent specifications.
. Provide technical input to improve manufacturability and reduce production costs.

Measurement and Quality Control

. Perform precise measurement and inspection using micrometers, Vernier calipers, and gauges.
. Ensure all machined parts meet quality standards and customer specifications.
. Investigate and resolve dimensional deviations and machining defects.

CNC Programming and Optimization

. Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs to improve machining efficiency and reduce cycle time.
. Select cutting tools, tool paths, and machining parameters based on material and job requirements.
. Continuously improve machining processes to enhance productivity andconsistency.

Machine Maintenance and Troubleshooting

. Diagnose and troubleshoot machine issues, process deviations, and tooling problems.
. Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs of machines and equipment.
. Ensure machines are operating safely and efficiently at all times.

Leadership and Production Support

. Guide and mentor junior machinists and operators on best machining practices.
. Support production planning and ensure jobs are completed on schedule.
. Collaborate with supervisors and engineers to meet production targets and quality goals.
. Drive continuous improvement initiatives on the shop floor.

Workplace and Team Collaboration

. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment incompliance with safety standards.
. Document machining processes, improvements, and production issues.
. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.

Requirements

. NTC / ITC / Diploma in Precision Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
. Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in CNC machining or precision manufacturing.
. Strong experience in 2-axis CNC turning and 5-axis CNC milling.
. Proven ability to perform machine setup, programming, and troubleshooting independently.
. Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and CAD files.
. Strong knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, and materials.
. Experience in process optimization and continuous improvement is an advantage.
. Willingness to work shifts when required.
. Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
. Fluent in spoken and written English.
