Our client is an established privately held investment and development group with a significant portfolio of high-quality real estate and hospitality assets across Singapore and key international markets.
As the business continues to manage and develop a diverse portfolio of projects, they are looking to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel to join their Singapore-based legal team.
This is a broad commercial role suited to a lawyer with strong experience across real estate development, hospitality, construction and/or major projects. The successful candidate will work closely with senior business stakeholders and external advisers on both ongoing developments and operational matters across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support across the full lifecycle of real estate development and investment projects, from project structuring and development through construction, completion and operations.
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of development, construction and project-related agreements, including main construction contracts, consultancy agreements, project management agreements and other commercial arrangements.
- Advise on EPC, design-and-build and construction contracts, including risk allocation, variations, claims and contractual issues arising during project execution.
- Support the business on hospitality-related matters, including hotel management agreements, operator arrangements, technical services agreements and other agreements relating to hospitality assets.
- Advise on property-related commercial agreements, including acquisition, disposal, leasing, asset management and development arrangements.
- Work alongside the investment and business teams on real estate transactions, joint ventures and strategic projects where required.
- Provide pragmatic legal advice on commercial, contractual and operational matters affecting the group's portfolio.
- Manage external legal counsel and coordinate advice across different jurisdictions.
- Support dispute prevention and resolution in relation to construction, development and commercial contractual matters.
- Assist with broader corporate and transactional work where required.
- Monitor relevant regulatory and legal developments affecting the real estate, construction and hospitality sectors.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer with approximately 6–8 years post-qualification experience gained with a leading law firm and/or established in-house legal team.
- Strong experience in one or more of the following areas: Real estate development, Construction/engineering, EPC and major projects, Hospitality and hotel development and Real estate transactions
- Experience advising developers, property owners, hospitality groups, contractors or infrastructure/project businesses would be particularly relevant.
- Strong drafting and negotiation capabilities, particularly across complex commercial and project contracts.
- Comfortable managing matters independently and working directly with senior commercial and operational stakeholders.
- Commercially minded with the ability to identify key legal risks without losing sight of the underlying business objectives.
- Singapore qualification would be advantageous, although lawyers qualified in other leading common-law jurisdictions with highly relevant experience will also be considered.
