Cana Consulting is partnering with our client, an established international energy company with a significant presence in the global LNG sector. As part of its continued commercial operations in Asia, they are seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to support complex cross-border LNG transactions and commercial activities.
This is a highly commercial role partnering closely with senior business stakeholders, providing strategic legal advice on high-value energy transactions within a dynamic international environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted legal adviser to the commercial and trading teams on a broad range of LNG and energy-related matters.
- Draft, review and negotiate long-term and short-term LNG Sales & Purchase Agreements (SPAs), commercial contracts and related transactional documentation.
- Support spot cargo transactions, commercial negotiations and other trading activities across international markets.
- Advise on shipping-related agreements, including charterparties and associated transportation arrangements.
- Identify legal and commercial risks while providing practical, business-oriented solutions to facilitate transactions.
- Partner closely with senior management on strategic commercial initiatives and cross-border projects.
- Manage external counsel where required and support dispute resolution matters when necessary.
- Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments affecting the energy and commodity trading industry.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer with approximately >15+ years post-qualification experience (outstanding candidates with relevant experience will also be considered).
- Strong in-house or private practice experience supporting LNG, commodity trading or international energy businesses.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating LNG SPAs, complex commercial agreements and cross-border transactions.
- Familiarity with shipping, transportation or commodity trading documentation would be advantageous.
- Commercially minded with strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Confident operating in a fast-paced, international business environment.
- Able to balance legal risk with commercial objectives and provide pragmatic advice to senior decision-makers.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
