Cana Consulting is currently partnering a leading energy and infrastructure platform across Asia. This role will serve as a trusted legal advisor to business and project teams across LNG, power & gas, and related energy transition initiatives, providing strategic, commercially minded legal leadership on complex transactions and large-scale infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will lead a team of legal professionals while partnering closely with senior management, commercial, finance, and project stakeholders to enable sustainable growth and manage legal risk across the portfolio.
This is a high-impact role suited for a senior in-house or private practice lawyer with deep experience in energy, LNG, utilities, or infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pragmatic legal counsel to senior leadership on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters across energy and infrastructure businesses
- Act as a business partner to commercial and project teams, balancing risk mitigation with deal enablement
- Support strategic initiatives including new market entries, partnerships, and investments
- Lead and negotiate complex commercial agreements including:
- LNG / gas sale and purchase agreements
- EPC and construction contracts
- O&M and services agreements
- Joint ventures, consortium and shareholder arrangements
- Long-term offtake and supply arrangements
- Support project development and execution across infrastructure and energy assets
- Advise on project finance structures, financing documentation, lender negotiations, and risk allocation
- Oversee corporate and governance matters across regional entities
- Manage external counsel and drive cost-effective legal support
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks and internal policies
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of legal professionals
- Set legal priorities, manage workload allocation, and build scalable legal processes
- Act as a key interface between Legal and senior business stakeholders
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction
- Minimum 15 years PQE, with a mix of private practice and in-house experience preferred
- Strong background in energy, LNG, power & gas, utilities, or infrastructure sectors
- Demonstrated experience handling large-scale projects and complex commercial transactions
- Familiarity with project finance structures and financing documentation
- Proven people management and team leadership experience
- Commercially astute, solutions-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, stakeholder-heavy environment
- Strong negotiation, drafting, and communication skills
