(Senior) Legal Counsel (5-10 PQE) – International Regulatory Compliance

Location: This role is based in Shanghai, China. Candidates should be open to relocation.

About the Client Our client is a hyper-growth global e-commerce giant. We are seeking high-caliber legal professionals capable of navigating high-stakes international regulatory scrutiny and complex cross-border competition alongside the business.

The Role We are looking for several compliance specialists to focus on one or more of the following areas: Global Regulatory Strategy & Monitoring, Product Safety & Consumer Protection, Data Privacy & Cybersecurity, Algorithmic Accountability, and Antitrust/Competition Law. As the business and team expand rapidly, successful candidates will have the opportunity to broaden their scope and transition into leadership roles within the team's matrix structure.

Candidate Requirements

  • Professional Experience: 5+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE) gained at a top-tier law firm or within a fast-paced in-house legal department (Big Tech or Global E-commerce experience is highly preferred).
  • Domain Expertise: At least 2 years of deep involvement in one or more of the aforementioned regulatory fields.
  • Education & Qualification: LL.B. or J.D. from a recognized university. Admission to practice in a common law jurisdiction (e.g., US, UK, HK, or Singapore) is highly advantageous.
  • Resilience: A proven track record of managing high-pressure crisis situations or large-scale regulatory investigations. Must be able to deliver results under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Comfortable with a building from zero environment. We need a proactive professional who can establish the rulebook rather than just following existing ones.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English and Mandarin is required to communicate effectively with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders, including overseas headquarters and external partners.
