Job Description

We are partnering with a leading international energy and infrastructure platform with operations across Asia to appoint a Senior Legal & Compliance Counsel on an 18-month contract basis.

This role sits within a lean regional Legal & Compliance team and will focus primarily on compliance, governance and risk oversight across Singapore and several Asian subsidiaries.

The Role

Reporting to regional leadership, you will lead and manage the compliance framework for the Asia platform, ensuring alignment with group policies and regional regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Governance (Primary Focus)

  • Maintain and enhance regional compliance policies, procedures and standards
  • Adapt and implement global compliance frameworks for Asia subsidiaries
  • Conduct internal compliance reviews and policy-mandated assessments
  • Oversee semi-annual regulatory updates across India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Bangladesh
  • Proactively monitor legal and regulatory developments across Singapore and key Asian markets
  • Manage whistleblowing processes and ethics reporting
  • Maintain and update quarterly risk registers and internal control assessments
  • Partner closely with Internal Audit and cross-functional teams
  • Identify and advise on compliance and regulatory risks across business operations

Corporate & Secretarial (Secondary Scope)

  • Support review of general corporate commercial agreements
  • Oversee and monitor corporate secretarial matters (Singapore and regional subsidiaries)
  • Manage external counsel within agreed budgets where required

Requirements

  • Law degree from a reputable university
  • 7+ years relevant legal experience (in-house or private practice)
  • Strong experience in compliance, governance and risk frameworks
  • Familiarity with Singapore law and exposure to broader Asian jurisdictions
  • Experience with corporate secretarial matters advantageous
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to operate independently in a lean regional structure
  • Chinese or Bahasa language capability advantageous
  • Willingness to travel within Asia
  • Singapore work rights required (no sponsorship available)
