Job Description

Overview

Our client is a Singapore-based investment platform with a long-term investment approach across public equities and alternative assets. The firm focuses on identifying opportunities arising from structural shifts in areas such as technology, artificial intelligence, energy, and industrial transformation.

Working closely with the Principal, the successful candidate will play a key role in generating investment insights and supporting the investment decision-making process. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to a highly focused investment team where intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, and rigorous analysis are highly valued.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for conducting fundamental research on Japanese listed companies and industries, providing differentiated insights that support portfolio construction and investment decisions.

The role extends beyond traditional equity research. The successful candidate will be expected to identify long-term drivers of value creation, challenge prevailing market assumptions, and develop independent investment views grounded in evidence and analysis.

While the investment team embraces modern tools and AI-driven research efficiencies, investment conclusions, critical thinking, and judgment remain at the core of the process. The ideal candidate will be comfortable forming and defending investment opinions while engaging in robust intellectual debate.

Key Responsibilities

Thematic & Industry Research

  • Analyze long-term structural trends across sectors including technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, energy, industrials, financials, and related industries.

  • Assess how macroeconomic, technological, and regulatory developments may impact future earnings and business performance.

Company Analysis & Financial Modeling

  • Conduct comprehensive research on Japanese listed companies using corporate disclosures, financial statements, earnings materials, and industry data.

  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models and valuation frameworks.

  • Build investment cases under multiple scenarios and assess potential upside, downside, and risk factors.

  • Identify key catalysts and monitor developments that may influence investment outcomes.

Investment Idea Generation

  • Develop differentiated investment perspectives by assessing what is already reflected in market expectations.

  • Generate actionable investment ideas supported by rigorous fundamental analysis.

  • Evaluate opportunities based on risk-reward profiles and long-term return potential.

Primary Research

  • Engage with company management teams, investor relations professionals, industry specialists, suppliers, customers, and other market participants.

  • Gather and synthesize information to validate investment hypotheses and deepen industry understanding.

  • Conduct all research activities in accordance with applicable compliance and regulatory requirements.

Investment Committee Support

  • Prepare concise and impactful investment presentations and recommendation materials.

  • Present research findings and support investment discussions within the team.

  • Monitor portfolio holdings and ongoing investment theses.

  • Track developments that may materially impact investment views and communicate findings in a timely manner.

Requirements

Required

  • Approximately 5+ years of experience in equity research, investment analysis, or a related investment role covering Japanese listed companies.

  • Strong fundamental investing background with experience analyzing public equities.

  • Advanced financial modeling, valuation, and accounting skills.

  • Professional-level English and Japanese to liaise with the stakeholders, with the ability to review and analyze English-language research and company disclosures.

  • Ability to communicate complex investment concepts in a clear and concise manner.

  • Strong analytical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and a disciplined approach to decision-making.

Preferred

  • Experience within hedge funds, long-only asset managers, family offices, or independent research firms.

  • Sector expertise in semiconductors, AI infrastructure, industrials, energy, or related industries.

  • Familiarity with major U.S. technology and AI-related companies.

  • CFA or other relevant professional qualifications.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capabilities with independent thinking and intellectual honesty. They are comfortable challenging consensus views, revising opinions when presented with new evidence, and engaging in thoughtful debate to improve investment outcomes.

This role is suitable for someone who views research not as an end in itself, but as a tool for making better investment decisions. The successful candidate will be naturally curious, highly driven, and motivated by uncovering insights that can create long-term investment value.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
Appreciate your understanding.
