Senior Infra/ Infra Ops & Support Specialist (Storage) (Contract)

[What the role is]

We are seeking an experienced storage and backup engineer to oversee our storage, backup, and cloud operations, combining traditional enterprise storage expertise with modern cloud infrastructure management. This role focuses on implementing, maintaining, and optimising enterprise storage and backup solutions across on-premises and cloud environments. The successful candidate will contribute to our cloud transformation journey while ensuring reliable day-to-day operations.

[What you will be working on]

Storage & Backup Operations

• Implement and maintain enterprise storage and backup infrastructure spanning on-premises and cloud environments

• Execute daily storage and backup operations, including provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting

• Monitor backup success rates, investigate failed backups, and ensure data integrity

• Perform regular backup restoration testing and validation procedures

• Configure and maintain backup reporting and monitoring systems

• Execute storage capacity planning and performance optimisation activities

Technical Implementation

• Deploy and configure Hitachi storage systems and Commvault backup infrastructure

• Implement backup policies and retention strategies as defined by the Tech Lead

• Develop automation scripts for routine storage and backup tasks

• Participate in infrastructure-as-code initiatives for storage operations

• Assist in proof-of-concept activities for new storage and backup technologies

• Support cloud migration initiatives and hybrid storage implementations

Operational Support

• Provide incident response and resolution for storage and backup issues

• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation when required

• Perform regular health checks and preventive maintenance activities

• Execute system patching and firmware updates according to maintenance schedules

• Process and fulfil service requests within agreed SLAs

• Generate reports on storage utilisation, performance metrics, and backup status

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate documentation of operational procedures and system configurations

• Ensure compliance with data retention policies and regulatory requirements

• Participate in change management processes and coordinate maintenance windows

• Support disaster recovery testing and business continuity exercises

• Contribute to knowledge base articles and technical documentation

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities for operational efficiency improvements

• Participate in technology evaluation and testing activities

• Contribute to the development of best practices and standard operating procedures

• Support training and knowledge transfer activities within the team

• Assist in cost optimisation initiatives across storage infrastructure

[What we are looking for]

• Minimum 5 years of experience in enterprise storage and backup administration

• Hands-on experience with Hitachi storage systems and Commvault backup solutions

• Experience with storage networking protocols and backup technologies

• Familiarity with ITIL processes and practices for IT Service Management

Technical Skills

• Enterprise Storage: Hitachi Vantara storage systems, SAN/NAS architectures, storage protocols

• Backup Solutions: Commvault administration, backup methodologies (full, incremental, differential)

• Cloud Storage: AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage

• Scripting: PowerShell, Python, or similar languages for automation tasks

• Monitoring Tools: Experience with storage and backup monitoring solutions

• Operating Systems: Windows Server and Linux administration

Professional Qualifications

• Hitachi Vantara storage certifications

• Commvault certifications

• Cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

• ITIL Foundation certification
