Senior Finance Manager
Our client is looking for a senior finance professional to lead a team, manage budgeting and forecasting, oversee funds, ensure strong governance, and partner stakeholders to drive sound decisions.
Responsibilities
- Lead, guide, and develop a team of finance professionals, ensuring effective delivery, capability building, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to team planning by setting objectives, strategies, and performance measures aligned with broader organisational goals.
- Mentor and coach team members to strengthen leadership, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Act as a finance business partner to assigned units, providing strategic and operational financial advice to management and key stakeholders.
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, ensuring strong controls over budgeting, forecasting, revenue tracking, and financial reporting.
- Drive annual budgeting and forecast exercises, coordinating submissions and movements to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Participate in management and planning meetings, offering sound financial insights to support strategic and operational decisions.
- Analyse financial performance, funding positions, and cost drivers, delivering clear and actionable insights through regular reporting.
- Identify opportunities for cost efficiency and resource optimisation, working with stakeholders to implement improvements.
- Prepare and present financial performance reports to senior management.
- Provide financial guidance across the full lifecycle of funds and grants, including budget planning, utilisation monitoring, and reporting.
- Collaborate closely with project leads and stakeholders to resolve issues, optimise funding utilisation, and support delivery of objectives.
- Ensure compliance with funding terms, conditions, and contractual requirements.
- Prepare and submit claims and financial reports to external parties, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and audit readiness.
- Coordinate with auditors and relevant teams during audits, year-end close, and fund closure processes to ensure accurate posting and reliable financial outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations, tax requirements, and internal policies.
- Perform control testing and follow up on exceptions to mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors on audit-related matters where required.
- Oversee fixed asset management activities, including verification exercises and maintenance of accurate records.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and functional partners.
- Provide clear guidance on financial policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistent understanding and application.
- Identify and recommend improvements to processes and systems to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and resource allocation.
- Lead or contribute to projects, system implementations, and change initiatives as required.
- Support ad hoc assignments as assigned by senior finance leadership.
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting or equivalent professional qualification.
- Approximately 10 years of relevant finance experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong exposure to budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and financial advisory work.
- Solid understanding of accounting standards, audit practices, and financial controls.
- Ability to interpret and apply funding or contractual terms with accuracy and sound judgment.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels.
- Highly analytical, well-organised, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Self-motivated, accountable, and able to operate independently under tight deadlines.
- Proficient in enterprise financial systems and standard office applications, with adaptability to new tools and technologies.
