About the Global Legal Compliance (GLC) Team Our Global Legal Compliance (GLC) team provides key support for ByteDance's innovative initiatives, advanced technology development, and integrated platforms serving our global markets. We partner closely with legal, business, product, engineering, infrastructure, and operations teams to help enable strategic growth while managing complex regulatory risk. We are looking for an experienced Senior Export Control Compliance Specialist / Manager to join our Global Legal Compliance team. This role will focus on the build-up, implementation, and continuous enhancement of ByteDance's export control and trade compliance program, with particular focus on operational controls, end-user due diligence, restricted party screening, cloud and infrastructure-related risk review, training, governance, and ongoing program execution. The ideal candidate is an experienced compliance professional with strong program-building instincts and a practical understanding of export control and trade compliance operations. This individual should be comfortable working across functions to help establish and improve scalable compliance processes, support day-to-day compliance operations, and strengthen the overall effectiveness of the company's global trade compliance framework, particularly in areas where export control risk arises through supply chain, customer onboarding, cloud or API access, compute infrastructure, and other operational workflows. Core Responsibilities - Support the build-up, implementation, and continuous enhancement of ByteDance and TikTok's export control and trade compliance program, including policies, procedures, governance processes, controls, and internal guidance drive program maturity assessments, maintain a risk-based policy framework addressing EAR and applicable non-US regimes, and translate regulatory developments into updated internal processes, training, and operational guidance. - Design and manage core compliance operations including restricted party screening, end-user due diligence, recordkeeping, training, monitoring, and audit readiness maintain screening and match-review workflows and sustain an escalation and case management process that produces defensible audit trails. - Develop and maintain compliance processes for cross-border business activities, technology transfers, customer and vendor onboarding, cloud/IaaS access, and advanced computing infrastructure build transaction review workflows that identify license requirements and exceptions under the EAR, assess counterparty risk factors including ownership, jurisdiction, and end-use concerns, and maintain documentation standards that would withstand regulatory scrutiny. - Partner with legal, business, product, engineering, infrastructure, procurement, logistics, supply chain, human resources, and operations teams to embed export control requirements into relevant workflows participate in product and feature reviews to surface export control implications early and serve as a practical, solutions-oriented resource for business stakeholders. - Assess and manage export control risks across the supply chain, including component-level ECCN classification, Foreign Direct Product rules, and vendor compliance obligations integrate screening and classification checkpoints into procurement and onboarding workflows and maintain visibility into supply chain dependencies that may trigger EAR or sanctions restrictions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification(s) - Bachelor's degree or above in international trade, law, compliance, public policy, engineering, or a related field. - Extensive experience in export controls, trade compliance, compliance operations, due diligence, or related regulatory compliance work. - Strong knowledge of U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the EAR, restricted party screening, licensing fundamentals, and export compliance governance. - Experience building, implementing, or enhancing compliance programs and operational controls in a multinational or cross-border business environment. - Experience managing core compliance processes, including screening, end-user due diligence, recordkeeping, training, monitoring, escalations, and audit support. - Ability to assess export control and counterparty risk across cross-border activities, including onboarding, end-use review, ownership diligence, and red flag analysis. - Strong communication, judgment, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across legal, business, and technical teams in different time zones. Preferred Qualification(s) - Experience supporting compliance matters involving advanced computing, AI, software, cloud/IaaS, infrastructure services, semiconductors, logistics, or supply chain operations. - Experience scaling compliance processes in a fast-growing or evolving regulatory environment. - Familiarity with export control risks involving technology transfers, cloud or API access, and infrastructure-enabled services. - Experience with screening tools, workflow systems, case management, or process improvement initiatives. - Familiarity with trade compliance developments across the U.S., UK, EU, Singapore, or other relevant jurisdictions.
