Primary Objectives of the Position
The System Administrator & Engineer is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the company's hybrid infrastructure, ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of systems across on-premises data centers and cloud environments. This role supports mission-critical applications and services, with a strong focus on system integrity, identity management, and operational excellence.
Major Responsibilities
System Administration
- Manage and maintain Windows Server environments, including patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Administer and support MS SQL and Oracle databases in collaboration with database teams.
- Operate and monitor Nutanix and VMWare clusters to ensure high availability and optimal resource utilization.
- Manage systems changes through change request process and respond promptly to incident, investigate and provide temporary and/or permanent resolution.
- Provide support outside of business hours, weekends, public holidays, non-working days (when required) for planned maintenances, unplanned outages, ad-hoc activities.
Active Directory & Identity Management
- Administer Active Directory (AD), including user and group management, GPOs, OU structure, and domain services.
- Ensure secure and efficient identity and access management across systems and applications.
- Support integration of AD with cloud services and security platforms.
Data Center Operations
- Oversee daily operations of on-premises data centers, ensuring uptime, environmental monitoring, and physical security.
- Coordinate hardware installations, upgrades, and maintenance for servers, storage, and networking equipment.
- Maintain inventory of data center assets and ensure proper documentation of configurations and changes.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers for support and lifecycle management of infrastructure components.
Cloud & Hybrid Operations
- Support workloads hosted in AWS, including EC2, S3, RDS, and VPC configurations.
- Assist in cloud provisioning, automation, and migration tasks using infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that may arise within on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
- Participate and contribute during regular audit activities on the IT infrastructure to ensure compliance.
Storage & Backup
- Manage Dell storage systems, including provisioning, performance monitoring, and capacity planning.
- Operate and maintain Cohesity backup systems, ensuring data protection and recovery readiness, and compliance with industry backup governance and policy.
Network & Connectivity (preferred and not mandatory)
- Collaborate with network teams to support WAN connectivity across sites using Cisco, Aruba, Huawei, and SingTel MegaPop solutions.
- Monitor and troubleshoot network break fix and performance issues and assist in configuration changes.
- Manage the lifecycle of networking components.
Security & Compliance
- Support firewall operations (Check Point, Palo Alto), VPN (Pulse Secure, Check Point), proxy, and SASE systems (preferred and not mandatory).
- Ensure systems comply with security policies and assist in vulnerability remediation.
- Participate and support annual DR, Data Recovery, and cyber exercises.
Monitoring & Documentation
- Implement and maintain system monitoring tools and dashboards.
- Document configurations, procedures, and incident reports for operational transparency and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in system administration or infrastructure engineering roles.
- Experience in managing hybrid environments (on-prem and AWS cloud).
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in:
- Operating Systems: Windows Server
- Directory Service: Active Directory, user/group management, GPOs, domain services
- Virtualization & Storage: Nutanix, VMWare, Lenovo
- Databases: Oracle, MS SQL (preferred and not mandatory)
- Cloud Platforms: AWS
- Backup Systems: Cohesity or similar
- Networking: Familiarity with Cisco, Aruba, Huawei, SingTel MegaPop (preferred and not mandatory)
- Security Tools: Check Point, Palo Alto, Pulse Secure VPN, proxies, Cisco SASE (preferred and not mandatory)
- Experience with scripting (PowerShell, Bash) and automation tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and automation tools is a plus.
