Why This Role Matters
Financial counselling plays a key role in supporting patients to make informed decisions about their care while ensuring the hospital maintains strong financial sustainability. This role ensures timely engagement with patients and their families to address financial concerns, facilitate appropriate funding support, and minimise financial risk.
By working closely with patients, clinicians, insurers, and external stakeholders, you help improve cashflow, reduce outstanding balances, and enhance the overall patient experience. This role is ideal for individuals who are analytical, service‑oriented, and comfortable navigating both financial processes and patient interactions.
What You Will Drive
1. Financial Counselling & Patient Support
. Perform financial counselling for in‑flight patients, supporting them in understanding treatment costs and making informed financial decisions.
. Facilitate referrals to Medical Social Workers (MSW) for patients facing financial difficulties.
. Ensure all financial counselling activities are accurately documented in the Financial Counselling system.
2. Deposit Monitoring & Revenue Assurance
. Carry out deposit monitoring duties, including collection of out‑of‑pocket payments from private patients.
. Obtain additional Medical Claims Authorisation Forms from next‑of‑kin to ensure adequate coverage for patient bills.
. Liaise with employers, Integrated Shield Plan providers, and medical insurers to secure Letters of Guarantee (LOG).
. Propose complex or high‑risk cases for escalation to relevant authorities (e.g. Ministry of Manpower or Legal), with guidance from team lead.
3. Operations Support & Coordination
. Support team lead in workload distribution, ward allocations, and operational coordination.
. Assist in updating training materials and conducting financial counselling refresher training sessions.
. Maintain strong collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth patient financial workflows.
4. Process Improvement & Innovation
. Participate in process improvement initiatives, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) projects to enhance financial counselling operations.
. Support system-related activities such as User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and implementation projects.
. Contribute to organisational initiatives and projects aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery.
5. Other Responsibilities
. Perform additional duties assigned by the Reporting Officer in support of departmental and organisational goals.
What You Bring
Education & Experience
. Degree qualification with 1-3 years of relevant experience.
. Experience in financial counselling, deposit monitoring, or healthcare finance operations will be an advantage.
. Familiarity with public healthcare financing schemes is a plus.
. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (e.g. VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables).
