Key Responsibilities
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Lead installation, setup, and qualification (IQ) of new manufacturing and test equipment for laser, optical sub-assembly, and alignment systems.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, process, and facilities engineering to ensure new tools meet beam alignment, optical precision, and cleanliness requirements.
- Conduct FAT, calibration, and validation for tools such as optical metrology instruments, thermal chamber, vacuum chamber, wire bonders, plasma systems, and
- Develop and maintain equipment documentation including SOPs, maintenance manuals, and calibration records.
- Implement and improve predictive maintenance programs, using data analytics, sensor feedback, and condition monitoring to reduce unplanned downtime and extend tool lifespan.
- Drive automation and continuous improvement projects to enhance alignment accuracy, throughput, and beam quality in optical and laser assembly lines.
- Analyze equipment data (SPC, DOE, MTBF) to track tool performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with global Coherent equipment and optics teams for benchmarking and technology transfer.
- Ensure full EHS and laser safety compliance, including handling of high-power optical systems.
- Provide training and handover support to production teams.
Qualifications Education
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- 25 years of experience in equipment or process engineering within laser, optics, or semiconductor manufacturing.
Technical Skills
- Experience with predictive maintenance systems, optical alignment, and laser performance validation strongly preferred
- Proficiency with optical metrology instruments (e.g., beam propagation analyzer, beam profilers, power meters).
- Knowledge of robotics, motion control, Programming and condition-based monitoring systems.
- Understanding of beam alignment principles, laser diode and optical coating,
- Familiar with data-driven maintenance tools, vibration/temperature sensors, and reliability tracking software.
- Proficient in data analysis (Excel, Minitab, JMP), CAD software, and documentation systems.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork, especially across optical and production teams.
- Adaptable, hands-on, and results-driven under dynamic production conditions.
Work Environment
- Cleanroom and optical lab settings with laser and ESD safety protocols.
- May require shift flexibility during tool installation and qualification.
- Occasional travel for vendor FAT, training, or regional Coherent support.
