The Company

Our client is a leading global organisation and specialises in providing equipment and services for electric power systems. An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer to join their APAC team based in Manila, Philippines and to play a lead role in partnering with customers throughout the Asia region to deliver post-sales engineering support. This support focuses on implementing advanced solutions for the distribution power grid and includes services performed out in the field on-site across various locations in Asia. Customer needs will include preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, and modifications or upgrades of automation and traditional products.

About You and Your Key Activities

Customer needs will be very diverse, so you need to be versatile, proactive, be able to think on your feet with a dynamic attitude. Your ability to problem solve and be solution focused will be key to your success.

You will be currently located in The Philippines preferably inor close to Manila, and this role will see you travelling extensively across Asia including The Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and Australia. You should expect to spend up to 70% of your time out in the field. This is not a role for someone looking for a steady 9-5 job, this will require a flexible working attitude and a sense of adventure. You should be self-motivated, trustworthy and take pride in your work.

This role will also require you to work from your home office providing consulting services to clients. This will include performing analytical studies and modelling, utilising PSS Sincal, DigSilent PowerFactory, PSS/E and other power system analysis software. Upskilling and training will be provided for this aspect of the role.

What will further enhance your success will be someone with a background in SCADA or Communications in this space.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead and actively participate in complex field service project design, planning, and execution of solutions and power systems, juggling multiple projects at a time
  • Travel up to 70% of the time, both internationally and domestically, including the ability to drive a vehicle, to provide field service engineering services
  • Develop commissioning plans and organize, supervise the on-site installation and commissioning of products for utility and commercial/industrial customers
  • Lead and plan pilot projects, defining pilot scope, write technical reports and managing projects through to completion
  • Develop testing methods and plans, and organize and supervise the testing of components and systems, analyse results, and document findings in reports and presentations
  • Drill down to analyse and resolve complex engineering issues and problems
  • Conduct maintenance on equipment both in the field and at the service centre in Melbourne, ensuring that the equipment operates as intended and customer satisfaction is met.
  • Perform analytical studies utilising PSS Sincal, DigSilent PowerFactory, PSS/E and other power system analysis software in the areas of network planning, protection, and distributed generator interconnection

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum (5) five years of experience working with electric transmission and distribution systems, including automation and protection systems, switchgear and other distribution products
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field
  • Detailed knowledge of industry standards, including IEEE, IEC as well as the schematics and layout of substations and distribution networks
  • Exposure to power system studies and knowledge of engineering concepts including power system dynamics and control systems
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience using Oracle and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Proficient with site-based safety protocols, lockout-tagout and hazards in a site-based environment, including experience interacting with de-energized medium-voltage switchgear
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to assess data to drive informed decisions and apply a creative approach to problem solving complex issues
  • Exceptional customer service skills, leveraging effective communication, active listening, problem-solving abilities, and a strong commitment to meeting customer needs and ensuring satisfaction
  • Fluent English - excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation) able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels from leadership to support staff
  • Able to successfully present to a variety of audiences, both small face-to-face interactions through large conferences and formal presentations
