Key Responsibilities
- Database Management: Administer and maintain on-premises (Oracle, SQL Server) and cloud databases (AWS RDS, custom RDS configurations). Ensure 24/7 availability across hybrid environments.
- High Availability: Design, implement, and manage database clusters with Always On availability groups, failover clustering for zero/minimal downtime.
- Migration Expertise: Lead database migrations from on-premises to Government Commercial Cloud (GCC), including schema/data transfers, validation, and cutover planning.
- Backup & Recovery: Execute DB maintenance using RMAN (Oracle), Windows Backup, native SQL tools. Perform regular full/incremental backups and point-in-time recovery.
- Automation: Develop PowerShell/Python/PL/SQL scripts for routine tasks (monitoring, health checks, alerting, log cleanup). Implement Infrastructure-as-Code for DB provisioning.
- Upgrades & Patching: Plan/execute database patching, technology refreshes (e.g., Oracle 19c23c), version upgrades with minimal business impact. Coordinate PSU/RU application.
- Performance Tuning: Proactively optimize queries, indexes, memory/CPU configs. Use AWR/Statspack, Execution Plans, wait analysis for bottleneck resolution.
- Security & Compliance: Implement database security (TDE, roles, auditing, VPD). Ensure GCC/SG gov compliance (e.g., DB security baselines, encryption at rest/transit).
- Disaster Recovery: Design/test DR solutions (Data Guard, Always On, cross-region RDS replication). Conduct annual DR drills with RTO/RPO validation.
- Incident Management: L3 escalation support for critical DB incidents. Root cause analysis (RCA) with post-mortems and preventive measures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's in Computer Science/IT or equivalent.
- Experience: 5-12+ years DBA experience (5+ years Oracle/SQL Server; 3+ years AWS RDS/GCC).
