Job Description

Job Purpose
The incumbent is a highly experienced mental health professional who is able to lead a therapeutic team of counsellors, therapists, associates and specialists to provide early identification and intervention services in the areas of psychological assessment, counselling, and support services to vulnerable children/youth and their families.

Job Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities

  • To provide supervision, mentoring and training to clinicians like counsellors, therapists, associates, interns and youth workers.
  • To oversee psychological assessments, therapy and counselling services and contributing to programme development
  • To coordinate case review of clinicians like counsellors, therapists, associates and specialists.
  • To develop individualised treatment plans and provide evidence-based therapies like individual, group, or family therapy.
  • To manage complex cases with significant mental health challenges.
  • To provide crisis intervention and case management.
  • To provide consultations with stakeholders, while remaining involved in the care of the client, revising the treatment protocol as and when needed.
  • To conduct talks/workshops on selected mental health topics for the community (e.g. schools, parents, families, peer supporters, volunteers, other social service agencies).
  • To carry out work in a professional manner, including protecting the confidentiality of the sessions, and the clients.
  • To uphold the ethical practices and legal guidelines relating to client care.
  • To maintain detailed clinical records and reports of the client. This includes clients personal information, reports and proper documentation of all sessions and clients.
  • To ensure flexible working hours, according to the needs of the programmes and clients.
  • To work in close collaboration with the other staff of the Home and of the other components of Boys Town in matters pertaining to the welfare of the clients.
  • To participate in research to advance knowledge and stay current with evidence-based practices and professional standards.
  • To present research findings at conferences and contribute to publications.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • To assist the Director in maintaining documentation detailing service delivery, audit and governance, outcome measures, community contacts and referrals.
  • To lead in roadshows and community programmes in support of children and youth mental health.

Organisational Responsibilities

  • To participate actively in all fundraising activities as well as any other commitments that Boys Town undertakes.
  • To work in close collaboration with other staff, department and components of Boys Town.

The Executive Director and/or his/her representative may assign you any other duties that are within reason for the operation needs of Boys Town.

Competencies Required

  • Planning & Coordinating - able to plan & coordinate
  • Communication - verbal & written
  • Interpersonal - able to communicate and interact with people, both individually and in group

Job Requirement

  • Masters in Counselling.
  • Registered Counsellor and Supervisor with the Singapore Association of Counsellors.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in clinical practice with diverse populations.
  • Expertise in evidence-based therapies and interventions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess humility, emotional maturity, empathy and self-reflexive in working with client and with multiple stakeholders.
  • Energetic, dynamic and willingness to learn.
  • Strong commitment to professional ethics and integrity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
