Are you looking for a new challenge in a fast-paced, innovative company Come make history and join Amazon's Legal Department by leading the most dynamic global trade portfolio in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region! This role will serve as the APAC regional lead for all importing, customs, transportation, logistics, and supply chain legal matters – directly enabling AWS's infrastructure growth. You will navigate rapidly evolving regulatory landscapes spanning multiple legal systems, deliver strategic trade legal counsel on hardware deployments, including AI accelerators and next-generation networking equipment, and directly influence AWS's global expansion strategy. In this role, you'll collaborate with business and legal teams across AWS and Amazon to develop innovative compliance solutions, manage government engagements, and shape the regulatory frameworks that govern how AWS builds and operates across the Asia-Pacific.

This role will give the successful candidate an opportunity to join a collaborative, tight-knit team that is leading exciting and pioneering global initiatives as part of a business that is making history. Some travel, domestic and international, will be required.

Key job responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive legal counsel on import, customs, export controls, sanctions, and other international trade laws applicable to cutting-edge technologies
  • Develop innovative international trade compliance solutions
  • Research and analyze evolving regulatory landscapes, communicating complex legal implications to business stakeholders
  • Support regulatory engagements and provide strategic input on legal and business decisions
  • Manage multiple complex legal matters simultaneously with precision and creativity

You'll engage with cross-functional teams, translating complex legal frameworks into actionable business guidance, and play a critical role in supporting AWS's groundbreaking technological advancements.

About The Team

Our Trade and Logistics Legal team is a close, collaborative group dedicated to pioneering legal solutions across AWS's global business. We work at the intersection of technology, law, and global strategy, supporting AWS's mission to transform how businesses leverage cloud technologies worldwide. Your expertise will be crucial in helping us navigate the intricate regulatory environments of emerging technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or international equivalent from an accredited law school
  • Licensed attorney with 10+ years post-qualification legal experience
  • Knowledge of international trade laws, including import, customs, export controls, and sanctions
  • Exceptional research and analytical skills with ability to summarize regulatory impacts
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently and make decisive legal recommendations
  • Ability to provide practical legal guidance in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of a mix of law firm and in-house work
  • Experience with technology sector
