Purpose of Position
- Ensuring safe, reliable and compliant operation of plant control and safety systems throughout their lifecycle.
- Provides technical leadership in maintenance, modifications, incident response, and continuous improvement of control systems, ensuring adherence to company standards, regulatory requirements, and functional safety principles.
- Plays a critical role in planning and executing maintenance and modification activities, assessing and managing change impacts, and supporting plant operation through sound engineering judgement and methodical practices.
Principle Responsibilities
- Control System Maintenance and Modification - Plan, develop and execute maintenance and modification strategies to ensure safe, reliable and compliant operation of control and safety systems. Prepare, review and update engineering documentation, and demonstrate technical leadership in the development of safe maintenance and modification practices.
- Change Management and Safety Impact Assessment - Assess proposed changes to control systems and analyse their impact on functional safety, maintain ability, operability and system integrity. Produce support report, supporting Management of Change (MOC) activities and ensure changes are implemented in accordance with approved procedures and standards.
- Preventive Maintenance and Compliance Management - Manage and coordinate control system preventive maintenance (PM), ensuring 100% PM compliance, proper documentation, and continuous improvement of maintenance effectiveness.
- Control System Engineering Ownership - Responsible for the maintenance, engineering, and technical integrity of all plant process control systems, including systems installed at internal facilities and, where applicable, at customer or external sites.
- Incident handling and Operational Support - Provide 24hour emergency call out support, including night shift coverage during plant startups, shutdowns, and operational upsets as required. Make timely, technically sound decisions during incidents, document decision rationale and actions taken, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and support root cause analysis and corrective action development.
- Lifecycle Strategy and Risk Management - Perform strategic planning for control system expansion, upgrades, obsolescence management, and system renewal. Identify, assess, and manage control system lifecycle risks to ensure long‑term reliability and compliance.
- Functional Safety and Engineering Leadership - Identify and manage functional safety and control system risks associated with plant operation, maintenance, and modification. Lead and support SIF proof testing activities and apply functional safety and quality assurance principles throughout the control system lifecycle.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Electronics/ElectricalEngineering, Instrumentation and control engineering, automation engineering orequivalent technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant hands-on experience in design, engineering, commissioning, maintenance, and modification of industrial control systems, with strong practical experience in Siemens PCS7-based DCS environments.
- Demonstrated experience working within regulated industrial or process environments, supporting safe operation, maintenance, and modification of control and safety systems.
- Proven ability to apply and comply international standards, industry codes, and organization requirements, including but not limited to IEC 61511, IEC62443, IEC60079, IEC61131, IEC62682, organization standards, OEM best practices.
- Preferred certification (Added Advantage): Siemens PCS 7 Certification, Functional Safety - Application software, Industrial Security, Industrial networking, or other relevant control system or safety-related certifications.
