Senior Business Trader (Carbon Market)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Carbon Trader with strong origination capabilities to expand our carbon trading franchise within a cross-commodities merchant trading firm. The ideal candidate will combine a proven trading track record in voluntary and compliance carbon markets with the ability to source and originate offtakes, forwards and client solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Trading & Risk Management

Run and grow a carbon trading book, covering both proprietary and flow trading activities.

Develop and executive strategies across VCM and compliance schemes (EU ETS, CORSIA, national schemes).

Manage risk exposure within VaR and capital limits.

Origination & Structuring

Source and structure offtakes, forwards, and tailored solutions with developers, corporates, and financials.

Build long term supply partnerships in nature-based, technology-based, and industrial projects.

Work with clients to deliver carbon-neutral solutions and hedging strategies.

Build and maintain strong relationships with project developers, airlines, utilities, industrials, and institutional investors.

Represent the firm at industry conferences, working groups, and regulatory consultations.

Key Requirements

710+ years of experience in commodities trading, with at least 35 years focused on carbon markets.

Strong P&L track record in voluntary and/or compliance markets.

Hands-on origination experience closing structured deals, not just priced them.

Strong understanding of registries and standards (Verra, Gold Standard, EU ETS, CORSIA).

Possess commercial edge (sharp negotiator, strong relationships, credible with counterparties).

Ability to navigate fast moving markets and make clear risk/reward calls.
