Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Azure Identity & Access Management Engineer with strong Microsoft Entra ID experience to support a new client-facing cloud identity workstream.
This is not a generic Azure Cloud Engineer role. The successful candidate will act as a Subject Matter Expert for Microsoft Entra ID and Azure identity-related topics, supporting technical implementation, troubleshooting, stakeholder discussions, process improvement, and knowledge transfer to team members who will join the project later.
The role requires a person who is technically strong, comfortable working in an evolving project environment, and able to communicate effectively with internal teams, client stakeholders, and, where required, the client's own customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert support for Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Entra ID related activities.
- Support identity and access management processes, including onboarding, access control, authentication, and application access.
- Work with Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, enterprise applications, app registrations, service principals, and related identity components.
- Analyse technical requirements and translate them into practical solutions or recommendations.
- Troubleshoot identity, authentication, access, and onboarding-related issues.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert and point of contact for Azure identity and Entra ID topics.
- Collaborate with internal technical teams, security teams, application teams, and client stakeholders.
- Support process improvement, documentation, and operational standardisation.
- Transfer knowledge to other engineers and help build capability within a new team.
- Participate in client-facing discussions and explain technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure Active Directory.
- Good understanding of Identity and Access Management principles.
- Experience with Conditional Access, MFA, SSO, app registrations, enterprise applications, users, groups, roles, and access management.
- Understanding of SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, service principals, and authentication flows.
- Experience with Azure RBAC and privileged access management; PIM experience is highly desirable.
- Experience with hybrid identity, Active Directory, Entra Connect, or Cloud Sync is an advantage.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex identity and access issues.
- Experience working with enterprise customers or large corporate environments.
- Strong documentation, communication, and knowledge-transfer skills.
- Ability to work independently where the exact scope is still evolving.
Nice to Have
- Microsoft SC-300 certification or equivalent practical experience.
- Azure certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-500, or similar.
- Experience with Microsoft Graph, PowerShell, automation, or identity reporting.
- Experience in security, governance, compliance, or Zero Trust-related initiatives.
- Experience supporting onboarding processes, application access, or enterprise application integration.
Soft Skills
- Strong client-facing communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical topics clearly and professionally.
- Consulting mindset and ability to ask the right questions.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and shaping solutions.
- Proactive, structured, and able to document and transfer knowledge.
- Able to collaborate with multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Reliable, ownership-oriented, and comfortable acting as an SME.
Ideal Candidate
- The ideal candidate is a senior Azure identity specialist who can combine hands-on Microsoft Entra ID expertise with consulting, communication, and knowledge-sharing skills. This person should be able to understand the technical side of the project, support the client in defining the right approach, work with internal and external stakeholders, and help prepare the team for future growth.
