Position Title: Senior Associate, Private Equity & Infrastructure

Reporting To: Principal, Head of Private Equity

Department: Investment Management

Location: Remote, based in Asia. Priority locations include India or Singapore

Summary

WaterEquity is seeking a Senior Associate based in Asia to support the team focused on growth equity and infrastructure projects. WaterEquity recently launched a new investment strategy focused on equity investments in climate resilient water and sanitation projects and companies, and the Senior Associate will play a key role on the team to source, diligence, and monitor investments. The ideal candidate will bring 3-6 years of strong experience in investment management within private equity and/or infrastructure investments and be eager for opportunities to learn and grow with a growing organization. WaterEquity may consider candidates with greater experience and seniority on a case-by-case basis. The candidate should be someone with strong analytical skills who thrives in a dynamic start-up culture, excels at independent work and proactive communication, and is able to manage diverse projects simultaneously. The candidate should be comfortable working remotely and with team members in diverse geographic locations. WaterEquity is a fully remote company, and candidates based in any country will be eligible for consideration. Priority locations include India or Singapore.

Requirements

Job Responsibilities

Investment Screening

  • Identify, screen, and evaluate potential investment opportunities.
  • Conduct initial assessments of target companies, markets, and regions to determine alignment with WaterEquity's investment thesis
  • Conduct ongoing research on infrastructure investment trends, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic developments in target geographies
  • Support origination efforts, build origination pipeline and manage client relationships during negotiation and deal process

Due Diligence & Financial Analysis

  • Support due diligence processes, including financial, operational, and impact assessments
  • Develop and refine complex financial models for project evaluation, sensitivity analysis, and forecasting cash flows to assess project viability and expected returns
  • Coordinate and evaluate third-party due diligence advisors (legal, technical, financial) and synthesize findings for internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare investment documentation and presentations for the Investment Committee, detailing strategic rationale, financial projections, risks, and impact potential
  • Research and analysis of new investment opportunities (countries, sectors, regulations) consistent with the investment strategy
  • Financial analysis and valuation of investment opportunities and lead financial modeling (Excel)
  • Investment due diligence with an emphasis on ensuring that key economics, financial, technical, and legal issues are adequately assessed. Support the preparation of project documents for internal approval

Pipeline & Portfolio Management & Reporting

  • Monitor investment financial and operational performance, support valuations
  • Database management for pipeline tracking and reporting; produce internal reports as needed
  • Support the development and management of an investment portfolio
  • Pipeline management and analysis, portfolio analysis and monitoring, internal and external reporting

Continuous Process Improvement & Support

  • Collaborate with team to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of investment processes.
  • Assist in the development of tools and methodologies to improve due diligence, impact tracking, and financial analysis processes.
  • Creation and modification of financial models and tools for investment analysis, either directly or through other external consultants
  • Support each stage of the investment process including business development and screening, negotiations, due diligence, and presentation to IC
  • Miscellaneous support activities including database management and wider support to the team as needed

Skills And Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, or a related field; an advanced degree (MBA, CFA, or equivalent) is a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years of directly relevant work experience in an investment role, such as in private equity, project finance, or impact investing
  • Proven track record in executing equity transactions in emerging markets, including drafting and negotiating term sheets, preparing investment committee memos, building and analyzing financial models, and managing end-to-end deal execution through closing
  • Advanced financial modelling skills in Excel and strong analytical thinking
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills in English. Additional languages are a plus
  • Ability to work well in a team as well as independently
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced culture and adaptable to change
  • Passion for impact investing and interest in making a difference through investments in climate resilient water and sanitation infrastructure
  • Experience in a remote working environment
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

Physical Requirements

This role involves extended periods of sitting and reaching. This role requires the ability to see, talk, and hear.
