Senior Assistant Director, Strategy & Transformation Support

JOB SUMMARY
This role supports Singapore Academy of Law (SAL)s strategic priorities and key initiatives shaping the future of the legal profession. It provides the opportunity to work on sector transformation efforts in areas such as legal innovation, ethics and sustainability, while engaging senior leaders and key stakeholders across the legal ecosystem.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Strategic Projects & Portfolio Management
- Support the conceptualisation, planning and implementation of strategic projects aligned with SAL's industry development and transformation agenda and the Future of the Legal Profession (FLP) initiatives.
- Coordinate and monitor progress across multiple workstreams, ensuring alignment of timelines, deliverables and dependencies.
- Prepare project updates, presentations, dashboards and briefing materials for senior management, leadership platforms and committees.
- Support the organisation in delivering key platforms, major events and strategic initiatives, including the Legal Profession Symposium, FLP workstreams and other priority programmes, through content development, stakeholder engagement, project coordination and operational execution.
2. Secretariat & Governance Support to Strategic Committees
- Lead the Secretariat function for SAL's strategic industry engagement committees (e.g. Future of the Legal Profession Committee, Promotion of Legal Technology & Innovation Committee, and related steering or advisory groups).
- Plan and coordinate committee meetings, including scheduling, agenda-setting, compilation and circulation of papers as well as the administrative and logistical arrangements necessary for successful execution of these meetings.
- Draft high‑quality agenda papers, decision papers, meeting minutes and action registers, ensuring clarity of recommendations, decisions and follow‑up actions.
- Track and monitor the implementation of committee decisions, highlighting progress, risks, and dependencies, and prepare regular status updates for the Committee Chair and senior management.
- Act as the central coordination point between committee members, internal and external stakeholders to support timely decision‑making and effective governance.
- Ensure committee documentation, reporting and workplans are aligned with SAL's strategic priorities and governance requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of committee processes, templates and governance workflows to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
3. Policy, Ethics & Sectoral Research
- Conduct and support the conduct of applied research on legal ethics, professionalism, lawyering sustainability and future trends in the legal sector to support policy formulation and programme design.
- Assist in drafting reports, research funding proposals, consultation papers, frameworks and publications for the legal community and institutional stakeholders.
- Monitor international and regional developments relevant to professional standards, ethics, legal innovation and synthesise insights for internal use and strategic positioning.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
- Support engagement with key institutional stakeholders (e.g. SG Courts, MinLaw, SILE, Law Society, SCCA, Law schools) through meeting coordination, preparation of materials, minutes taking and follow‑ups.
- Assist in the preparation of consultation documents, presentation decks and facilitation materials for stakeholder workshops and discussions.
- Facilitate collaboration across internal SAL departments and external partners, ensuring clear communication and alignment of objectives and deliverables.
5. Other Duties
- Undertake any other duties as may be assigned in support of SAL's industry development and promotion objectives and mission.
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
- A good Law degree from a recognised university; additional training in public policy, governance, or strategic project management is an advantage.
- At least 5 to 7 years of relevant experience, preferably in private practice, in-house legal, public sector policy, strategy, or professional development roles.
- Demonstrated experience providing committee or board‑level secretariat support, including drafting papers and minutes.
- Strong leadership and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, stakeholders, and deadlines.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, with experience preparing reports, briefing papers, and presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence in engaging senior stakeholders and supporting leadership discussions.
- Keen interest in legal ethics, professionalism, lawyering sustainability, and the evolving role of the legal profession and the age of AI.
