Job Description

The College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CoHASS) is seeking a Senior Assistant Director (Research Grants and Development) to support the College's research development efforts. The role works closely with the Associate Dean (Research), faculty, and School research teams to strengthen grant applications, build funding pipelines, and improve overall grant outcomes.

The postholder will advise faculty on funding opportunities, support the preparation of competitive grant proposals, and guide researchers through both pre-award and post-award processes. This includes reviewing proposal narratives, advising on budgets, and ensuring submissions meet funding agency requirements. The role also involves working with faculty to shape ideas into fundable projects and supporting interdisciplinary and cross-institution collaborations.

In addition, the role will organise workshops and small-group sessions to improve grant writing and awareness of funding schemes. The postholder will maintain close links with funding agencies and relevant University offices, and keep faculty informed of changes in policies and priorities. Over time, the role is expected to contribute to a stronger and more consistent grant pipeline across the College.

Requirements:

  • A good Bachelor's degree from a recognised university a postgraduate qualification is preferred.

  • At least 8-10 years of relevant experience in research development, grant management, or a related role in a university or research setting.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to review and improve research proposals.

  • Good understanding of grant application processes, including budgeting and compliance requirements.

  • Ability to work with faculty across different disciplines and support both early-career and senior researchers.

  • Comfortable working across multiple projects with competing timelines.

  • Clear communication skills and a practical, steady approach to problem-solving.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
