Job Summary
The APAC Trade Compliance Manager will own the end‑to‑end trade compliance function for all Asian markets, overseeing a distributed team of compliance specialists in multiple countries. This role will develop, implement, and maintain policies,processes, and controls that ensure compliance with export controls, customs regulations, sanctions, and related trade legislation across the APAC region.The manager will partner with cross‑functional leaders (Legal, Operations,Finance, Supply Chain, Sales, and R&D) to embed compliance into dailybusiness activities while mitigating risk and supporting growth initiatives.
KeyResponsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Directly manage a regional team of Trade Compliance Specialists (e.g., in China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, India, SE Asia).
- Recruit, develop, and mentor staff provide performance feedback, coaching, and career growth plans.
- Foster a culture of compliance, ethics, and continuous improvement.
Strategic Trade Compliance
- Define and execute the APAC trade compliance strategy aligned with global policies and corporate objectives.
- Lead the development and maintenance of country‑specific compliance manuals, SOPs, and internal controls.
Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure adherence to all relevant export‑control regimes (e.g., EAR, ITAR, EU Dual‑Use, Wassenaar), and sanctions programs (e.g., OFAC, UN, EU, local).
- Monitor legislative changes in each APAC market translate updates into actionable guidance.
- Oversee licensing and local classification processes.
Operational Support
- Advise internal stakeholders (Supply Chain, Sales, Engineering, Legal) on classification, licensing, restricted parties screening, and trade documentation.
- Conduct regular internal audits and compliance reviews report findings to senior leadership.
Training & Awareness
- Design and deliver region‑wide training programs (e‑learning, workshops, webinars) for employees, partners, and contractors.
- Maintain a compliance knowledge base ensure easy access to up‑to‑date guidance.
Collaboration & Governance
- Serve as primary liaison between APAC business units and Global Trade Compliance function.
- Participate in global compliance committees, contribute to policy development, and share best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 8-12 years of progressive experience in trade compliance with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Direct experience managing compliance across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
- Deep knowledge of global export‑control regimes (EAR, ITAR, EU Dual‑Use, etc.) and APAC‑specific customs legislation.
- Proficiency with classification (ECCN, HS, HTS), licensing processes, and restricted‑party screening tools.
- Bachelor's degree in International Business, Law, Economics, Engineering, or related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
- Willingness to travel 30-40 % within the APAC region (including site visits and auditor meetings).
