Job description

There's no such thing as a safe system - only safer systems. Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. As a Security Engineer, you help protect network boundaries, keep computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and provide security services to protect highly sensitive data like passwords and customer information. Security Engineers work directly with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. You also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

You use your industry experience to own and drive the resolution of complex security incidents, policy questions and technical security issues.

Enterprise Data Protection (EDP) is an overarching cybersecurity program that delivers security controls across Google's systems and enables the enforcement of consistent security policies on all platforms housing Google's IP. EDP develops and delivers native security controls while influencing, integrating, and driving security standards across other teams. We focus on proactive, preventive measures designed to mitigate threats before they occur.

In this role, you will engineer the next generation of data protection by building infrastructure that safeguards Google's intellectual property and user data. You will deliver reliable, high-scale systems and seamless Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions that balance security with developer usability, ensuring every Googler can work securely and resiliently across the globe.

Qualifications

Job responsibilities

• Implement security controls across all systems at Google that process or store our intellectual property.
• Work with security engineers, product managers, technical program managers, stakeholders in the product area, and partner teams to implement preventive exfiltration controls.
• Lead other engineers on designing and building controls for many systems, including workspace, Chrome, bug manager, corporate endpoints, access management systems, and more.
• Lead the engineering effort to design and implement automatic AI based classification systems.
• Build next generation security controls that are context aware, ensure controls are effective against threats from agentic AI.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  
• 2 years of experience with security assessments or security design reviews or threat modeling.
  
• 2 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security and security protocols.
  
• 2 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages.
  

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Experience in agentic software engineering.
• Experience in AI-driven large-scale data reasoning and inference processes.
• Expertise in AI.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity solutions and related product landscapes.
