Responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance and repair of boilers, main machinery and all items of auxiliary machinery which are the responsibilities of engine department. Any defects in equipment are to be brought to the attention of Chief Engineer immediately.
Responsible for the management and supervision of engine department and for the allocation of responsibilities to the other engineers with reference to routine maintenance and operating duties as per Company policies and procedures.
Responsible for advising the Chief Engineer of spare parts requirements and ensuring that all spare parts are correctly stowed, labelled and maintained in an efficient state of preservation.
Assist the Chief Engineer in the preparation of repair lists.
Familiarize himself and his crew in engine room with the Company policies and SOPMs and must take due care for the health and safety of himself and crew.
Co-operate with the Ship's Safety Officer in the promotion of safety throughout the engineering function.
