Position Summary:
As a Scientist 2 within Illumina's Advanced Science team, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team to help create new sequencing methods. You will play an important role in the research and development of sequencing reagents and consumables with the world-class performance, stability and robustness characteristics that our customers require.
Position Responsibilities:
Be the main contributor of project and lead investigation to solve cross-functional problems in collaboration with key stakeholders
Plan and optimize research ideas leading to new methods and chemistries for sequencing in a fast-paced environment
Explore new technologies, troubleshoot and identify creative solutions to overcome current limitations
Design, implement, analyze and present experiments to demonstrate feasibility of new technology with limited instruction
Be a collaborative team member and individual contributor.
Conduct clear and concise communication with colleagues (cross-functional) and supervisors through oral updates, written reports and technical meetings
Upkeep of lab equipment, laboratory supplies and good housekeeping

Position Requirements:
Proven track record in innovation, scientific creativity and scientific output in new chemistry, bioconjugates and material science
Expert in synthesis and analytical techniques for small molecules, nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides and/or peptides
Excellent laboratory, experimental and organizational skills
Strong team player with proven collaboration, innovation, and openness character traits
Collaborates effectively at a program level and with stakeholders
Attention to detail
A self-starter, positive, and driven with a can do attitude.
Excellent verbal/written communication skills

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:
Typically requires a Bachelor's with 2+ years of experience or Masters degree in chemistry or materials science
Industrial experience is highly desirable
