SAP Specialist - BW and BOBI

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced SAP BW/4HANA & BOBJ Specialist to join our client's Enterprise Analytics team. This role is central to the design, development, and maintenance of our data warehousing infrastructure and business intelligence landscape.

The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in SAP BW/4HANA data modeling, end-to-end ETL pipeline development, ABAP programming, and high-performance BI reporting using SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Data Modeling & Architecture

. Design, develop, and maintain SAP BW/4HANA data models including Advanced DataStore Objects (ADSOs), Composite Providers, Open ODS Views, and InfoObjects.

. Perform end-to-end data modeling from source-to-target including staging, persistence, and reporting layers.

. Work on BW/4HANA migration activities including system conversion, object remediation, and performance tuning.

. Ensure alignment of data models with enterprise data governance standards and business requirements.

2. Reporting & BOBJ Development

. Develop and optimize SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence (WebI) reports with a focus on performance, usability, and business alignment.

. Develop BW/BEx Queries with complex calculations, restricted and calculated key figures, variables, and query optimization techniques.

. Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate analytical needs into production-ready, self-service BI solutions.

. Maintain and enhance existing reports, universes, and BEx query structures for scalability and accuracy.

3. ETL & Data Extraction

. Build and enhance data extraction frameworks using CDS-ODP extractors and standard BW extractors.

. Design and maintain Data Transfer Processes (DTPs), process chains, delta mechanisms, and error handling/monitoring routines.

. Perform data modeling and transformation logic using BW transformations, routines (Start/End/Field), and AMDP where applicable.

. Ensure robust error handling, reconciliation, and traceability across all data loading processes.

4. ABAP Development

. Implement ABAP developments in BW including routines, customer exits, BADIs, function modules, and DTP filter routines.

. Develop AMDP (ABAP Managed Database Procedures) for complex transformation logic leveraging SAP HANA capabilities.

. Write clean, well-documented, and reusable ABAP code following SAP development best practices.

5. Data Quality, Reconciliation & Governance

. Perform data reconciliation and ensure data consistency across source systems and reporting layers.

. Implement and enforce governance, data security, and authorization concepts in BW and BOBJ environments.

. Work with data stewards and functional teams to establish and maintain data quality standards.

6. Collaboration, Integration & Testing

. Collaborate with functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical BW/4HANA and reporting solutions.

. Support system integration, testing (Unit, SIT, UAT), and production deployments.

. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to BW data loads, transformations, and reporting layers.

. Design and maintain process chains for data loads, scheduling, and automation of BW processes

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.

. 5-10 years of hands-on experience in SAP BW/BW4HANA development and implementation.

. Proven experience with SAP HANA, S/4HANA integration, and ODP framework.

. Strong proficiency in ABAP programming within the BW context (routines, exits, BADIs, AMDPs).

. Solid understanding of ETL architecture, delta mechanisms, and data warehousing best practices.

. Experience in BEx Query development with complex navigation attributes, restricted key figures, and variables.

. Experience in developing WebI reports and working with BOBJ CMC administration.

. Familiarity with SAP Solution Manager, Transport Management, and Change Management processes.

. Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred / Nice to Have:

. SAP BW/4HANA or SAP Certified Application Associate certification.

. Experience with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) or Lumira Designer.

. Exposure to Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies.

. Knowledge of S/4HANA embedded analytics and virtual data models.
