Job Summary

The Salon Manager is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the salon, ensuring a high-quality client experience, driving revenue growth, and leading and developing a skilled team of beauty professionals. This is a crucial leadership role that balances excellent customer service, strong business acumen, and effective team management.

Responsibilities

Staff Management & Leadership

  • Recruit, hire, and onboard stylists, colorists, technicians, and front desk staff to build a skilled team.
  • Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching to improve technical skills, product knowledge, and customer service.
  • Lead training sessions to enhance team capabilities and service quality.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment to boost staff retention and morale.
  • Resolve employee conflicts and disciplinary issues promptly and fairly to maintain workplace harmony.

Operations & Business Management

  • Manage daily cash handling, financial reconciliation, and payroll processing to ensure accurate financial operations.
  • Monitor and control inventory levels of professional and retail products to minimize waste and maintain stock availability.
  • Oversee the booking system to ensure efficient client appointment and walk-in management.
  • Maintain salon cleanliness and equipment upkeep in compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
  • Analyze sales data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify growth opportunities and improve business performance.

Client Experience & Sales

  • Serve as the primary contact for complex customer service issues, resolving them swiftly to maintain client loyalty.
  • Drive retail product sales by training staff and implementing promotional campaigns.
  • Develop and execute local marketing strategies and client loyalty programs to attract and retain clients.
  • Maintain a welcoming, high-end salon atmosphere that aligns with the brand image.

Required competencies and certifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in a management or supervisory role, preferably within a salon, spa, or high-end retail environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team of 5 or more employees.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Preferred competencies and qualifications

  • License in cosmetology or a relevant field is a plus but not required if management experience is extensive.
  • Proficiency with salon management software (e.g., Mindbody, Vagaro) and standard office applications.
  • Strong business acumen including retail operations, budgeting, inventory control, and sales forecasting.
  • Exceptional coaching, mentoring, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients, staff, and vendors.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
