The Restaurant Captain is responsible for supervising the dining service team and ensuring a smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant floor. This role serves as the liaison between the kitchen and service staff, while also ensuring that guests receive high-quality service and an exceptional dining experience. The Captain takes initiative to resolve guest concerns, trains junior staff, and upholds restaurant standards at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Guest Service:
- Greet guests professionally and courteously upon arrival.
- Ensure guests are comfortably seated and satisfied with service throughout their visit.
- Take orders when necessary and ensure accuracy in food and beverage delivery.
- Handle guest complaints or feedback diplomatically and efficiently.
- Build strong guest relationships and encourage repeat business.
Team Supervision:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of waitstaff, runners, and bussers.
- Ensure the team adheres to service standards, hygiene protocols, and grooming guidelines.
- Conduct pre-service briefings to communicate daily specials, reservations, and shift responsibilities.
- Assist in training new team members and provide on-the-job guidance to junior staff.
Operations:
- Ensure smooth service flow during shifts, including table turnover and service timing.
- Coordinate closely with kitchen and bar staff for timely and correct order delivery.
- Monitor inventory and inform management of shortages or restocking needs.
- Assist in closing duties such as reconciliation of bills, setting up for the next service, and reporting any incidents.
Administrative:
- Maintain proper documentation related to shift handovers, guest feedback, and incident reports.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and restaurant SOPs.
- Support restaurant management in organizing events, promotions, or VIP service.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a similar role within a high-quality restaurant or hotel.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and guest service abilities.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations.
- Basic knowledge of food, beverages, wine, and service etiquette.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
