Resident Physician

The role of Resident Physician in Internal Medicine is to be responsible for the holistic management of patients in the ward and may include seeing patients in the ambulatory setting. Resident Physicians will work alongside House Officers/PGY1, Medical Officers, Hospital Clinicians, Clinical Associates and Residents.

This role spans the breadth of general internal medicine, encompassing subspecialties such as Advanced Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Infectious Diseases, Renal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, and Rheumatology.

Key Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic inpatient care across internal medicine subspecialties under supervision of senior team members
  • Perform initial assessment and treatment of common medical conditions
  • Conduct routine reviews, documentation, and communications with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals
  • Identify critically unwell patients, initiate early resuscitation, and escalate timely to senior doctors
  • Perform common ward-based and bedside procedures under senior supervision, including consent taking
  • Supervise and assist house officers
  • Assist senior team members in running outpatient clinics
  • Meet clinical and service quality standards as determined by the Hospital
  • Participate in CME activities including Morbidity & Mortality Meetings, Journal Clubs, conferences, and relevant journal reading
  • Prepare medical reports and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

What You Bring:

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) registrable with the Singapore Medical Council
  • Postgraduate qualification such as a Master's degree, diploma, or Staff Registrar Scheme Diploma from the Academy of Medicine
  • Minimum 3 years of Medical Officer or post-housemanship equivalent experience
  • Sound clinical judgement and competence in managing complex medical patients independently
  • Strong communication skills with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Adaptability and resilience in fast-paced, dynamic clinical environments
  • Commitment to ethical practice aligned with SMC's Ethical Code and Ethical Guidelines
  • Alignment with MOH code of conduct and Woodlands Hospital values

Mandatory Requirements

  • Eligible for registration with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) as a qualified medical practitioner
  • Be a Singapore citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident with valid residency status
  • Possess a current and valid SMC practising certificate that permits clinical practice in Singapore
  • Maintain a valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate demonstrating competency in emergency resuscitation procedures
  • Hold valid medical malpractice indemnity coverage providing appropriate professional liability protection for clinical practice
